50 babies a day born to Polish mothers in UK

Baby boom: Last year nearly 20,000 babies were born to Polish migrants

More children are born in Britain to Polish mothers than those from any other foreign country, it emerged last night.
Last year nearly 20,000 babies were born to Polish migrants –that is more than 50 a day and amounts to one in every 37 newborns.
Official figures show that in just six years the number of children born to Polish women has increased nearly six-fold. In 2005 –the year after Britain opened its borders to workers from the former Eastern Bloc countries –the number was lower than 3,500.
The figures illustrate the scale and speed of Polish migration since the expansion of the European Union, and the effects of the Labour government’s decision not to impose restrictions on worker numbers.
The so-called ‘migrant baby boom’ means that across the country, one in four of all children is born to a mother who was born overseas.
That figure has doubled in just ten years as migrant numbers have exploded.

Hardly newsworthy, it is pretty much common knowledge around here that the surest way to get a Polish woman pregnant is to put her on a Ryanair heading for Blightey.

You mean they are getting pregnant in plane?Just kidding.Anyway what is your estimation about the proportion of pregant polish women not having been impregnated by polish men?Will their children be white?

Just like on PF, Poles are seen as an easy target yet again.

I'm surprised that no-one has noticed what is the real agenda here.

If, for example, they had written "6 babies born to Somalian women in the UK every day" or "9 babies born to Trinidadian women in the UK every day", it wouldn't have been newsworthy. But if they had written "170 babies born to Afro-Caribbean women in the UK every day" or "275 babies born to Somalian women in the UK every day", and implied that this was a bad thing, you would have been deafened by the screams of "rascism" (sic) from the usual suspects.

I do not know the exact figures, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that the figures for the aforementioned groups are indeed significantly higher than the figures for Polish births. So, yet again, it's OK to demonise Poles for the problems caused by immigration, simply because the media dare not criticise Blacks or Asians. Yet the reality is that Poles only represent a small part of the total number of immigrants.

We're not even a particularly visible minority. Few British people can't really tell who is Polish just by looking at them (unlike us, lol) - give a British person some earplugs, dump them in the Trafford Centre, and see how many Poles they can spot. OK, when you can hear the so-called "east European" accent, and you see a bleached-blonde girl in market clothes (or a shaven-headed guy with a backpack and camo pants) standing outside a Polish shop or venue, then you would probably right. But elsewhere? When they are in isolation and/or mixed with other white people; especially if they aren't dressed in that "Polish" way? Most would find it difficult to spot us.

The media hates Poles because they know they can get away with it. If Giles Coren had written what he wrote about about Poles, but had written it about "Pakis" instead, he would have been jailed.

The vast majority of Polish women that come to the UK are of child-bearing age and Polish are the fastest growing influx. As Midas said, hardly newsworthy. Just the usual crap for the targeted readership that paper has - people over 50 who wish the UK would go back to Pounds, Shillings and Pence types.

Fastest-growing, maybe; but from a much smaller initial number than the groups mentioned above. There were only 1/4 million of us before 2004 (which includes those of us born here, like me) and it took over 60 years to reach than number. We were here before mass immigration from the Indian sub-continent, yet look at how many people there are in the UK who descend from that region. Yet those "mass births" are never criticised by the media. So it appears to be OK to be racist to white immigrants.

Of course not. They will stay in the UK, and the next generation will be fully integrated and hardly Polish anymore. Poles assimilate very fast... just ask the Germans.

Very true. White in colour and "non exotic" culturally makes them fair game.

Similar with Irish a lot of the time too. Certain sections of British media seem to think it's OK to make references to potatoes, drunkenness and talk in silly leprechaun voices etc etc.

I remember on Jonathan Ross a couple of years ago he had Dara Ó Briain on & welcomed him to the seat with all this "ah to be sure, bejasus" type stuff. Dara was laughing a bit, but more out of disbelief than anything and shaking his head in disapproval etc. Ross sort of light heartedly implied he should lighten up and the response was "well put it this way, if I was Indian would you have done a cod Indian accent, wobbled your head and said things like 'goodness gracious me how bloody nice to see you' etc etc.

We won't bomb your buses, fill your language with Grypsera (criminal slang), and we don't think we're "ghetto" if we live in poor areas. We don't do poppy-burning either ;)

all this "ah to be sure, bejasus" type stuff.

I must have met tens of thousands of Irish people over the years, but I've still never heard anyone who speaks like that. I haven't heard anyone on TV laughing at the "Polish" way of speaking - missing out indefinite articles, mispronouncing the letter "w", etc., but I'm sure it will happen soon.

I am Irish, live there, and I've never even heard it!

It's a hollywood thing I think.

Think of how completely the "pirate" accent has been absorbed into popular culture - apparently, only because one of the very early successful pirate hollywood movies featured an actor who happened to be from Bristol!

Does it have any roots in reality, though? Is there likely to be somewhere (or someone) in Ireland who really does end every sentence with "to be sure", etc?

Like I mentioned to isthatu2 a while back, about someone I met from Doncaster who I thought had a hilarious "stereotypical" Yorkshire accent, but it turned out that some older people really do speak like that :)

I'm sure there has been at some stage. I've only ever heard it said in jest though and I live in a rural area kind of renowned for quaint expressions/old world charm etc

Like the English "top hole old sport" or something maybe still today, somebody, somewhere talks like this.

Jesus pronounced jaysus (especially in Dublin) is common though, without the "be" prefix that is

Not sure that's actually true. Most of the Poles post 2004 don't really integrate into wider British society, they generally keep to themselves. Unlike the War Poles that did integrate, the recent migrant. have not really integrated into British society.

Give them a little more time.

Even Great-Grandad Bielecki had to face some difficulties when he first settled in the UK. Integration takes time. It doesn't help with the right wing hitler supporting rag printing articles like this in an attempt to subvert.

The daily heil is a rag for retards that attempts to portray itself as the preferred reading of middle England.......Fish and chip paper!!
