European Directive "Television without Frontiers"

i am aware of that and I think its a good thing.. but it still doesnt mean the death of the BBC, they are already adapting. Listen, I like the BBC but it doesnt mean that I agree with the licence fee, which you will see if you check my earlier post.

ITV is now doing a deal to have a TV catch up service, similar to the BBC I-Player.

ITV catchup service has been working for over a year now and just re-branded itself to be called the 'ITV Player'.
If you are talking about the ill fated 'Kangaroo' a joint venture between all the broadcasters this was was thrown out by the Ofcom regulator due to it's proposed unfair monopoly of broadcasting and is dead and buried in its proposed form thank god.

Yes that's what I thought, I was watching programs on it last week ;)

Adding more channels might be adapting but general program quality will go down. It means trying to stretch out more programs, pay more presenters/staff from the same budget, it can't work. They'll end up just producing a ton of low budget rubbish.

John Logie Baird invented the Television, Farnsworth developed it.

Farnsworths contribution can be compared to the development of the plasma screen, high definition or nicam. A development of the original inventors concept.

Edit - At present there is a row about the BBC not broadcasting a Disasters Emergency Committee appeal for Gaza. They are the only terestrial station not to do this. They say they want to keep their impartiality.
To quote a post in the comments section of their site....

The BBC ran a DEC appeal for the Congo in 2008, BBC ran a DEC appeal for Sudan in 2004, BBC ran a DEC appeal for Kosovo in 1999, BBC ran a DEC appeal for Rwanda in 1994, BBC ran a DEC appeal for 'Former Yugoslavia' in 1994, etc...
BBC was not worried about "impartiality" then.
So we must just conclude that israel owns BBC...

Logi Baird powered his original television with energy from pickernic baskets.
Many inventions weren't invented in one go by one individual. Some people live in a world where people work on eachother's ideas, sometimes even share ideas. What a beautiful world it could be. No, I'm not a ****ing hippy.

British TV channels ITV 1, 2, 3, and 4
Copy and paste these into windows media player URL and they seem to work okay from abroad. Be prepared for some of them will not show when there is a live stream because under UK copyright laws they are not allowed to live broadcasting on the net for some reason.
But all of them work as I have checked them.

Benny Hill Was the best that British comedy ever had to offer:)

Benny was IBA, not BBC.

WarsawNoob:
Just wait until you have American style TV, with tons and tons of commercials and almost every program aimed at the lowest common denominator. You'll reconsider the value of your tv license.

We already have th seeds of it! And that's with the licence

adverts on Polish TV are just terrible. I refuse to watch Sky 1 on the principle that for every 1 hour were subjected to 15 minutes of advertising. Thats total waste of a life.

I agree here. Polish commercials are atrocious for the most part. Too many pansies doing those yoghurt commercials. Also, TVN is ludicrous for breaks. The first break in Millionairze lasts 17 minutes. From 18.06 to 18.23. You doubt me? Go and watch it for yourself.

There are some commercials which are passable I guess.

True in the form of the Benny Hill Show, but he actually started out on the BBC in 1955, but come to think of it I don't think sledz is that old.....

The last time I seen it was probably 15 years ago, that show was hilarious.
They used to have alot of British programming on Public Televison here????
Public TV doesnt play commericals so they dont have as much money.

It's the independent broadcasting stations (with adverts), Thames, Granada, ATV/Central etc.

What I can't stand on Polish TV is the political programmes. They ar worse than in UK. A bunch of buraks in suits screaming at each other without giving anyone the time to reply. And these guys are supposed to be running the country.

BBC would never give up. There is too much money involved. Licence is not everything. There's many other sources of their income. They will get it one way or the other.

Times are hard, progs have been cut and who knows what the future is! Most homes have Sky or something else - so many more chanels to chose from these days the BBC no longer have the upper hand...

Me.

I bet Dr.Who knows as well cos he has gone into the future and seen it, so maybe it will be shown on a future episode. If it doesn't get shown in future episode then we shall know that the BBC has no future.

But hey, look on the bright side they may release a DVD of it :)

Hehehe :)

The trouble with Dr Who is even when he's in the future he's up his own behind these days. I watched the last episode with cathy tate... god, what a load of pretentious b*llocks!

How about the 100s that have just lost their jobs...I was merely pointing that no one knows the future of the BBC - one thing I have learnt over the last few years it that nothing is a given in this country and we have lost "iconic" brands one by one and the BBC is no different.
