Fish and chips - do Polish people in the UK like this?

Nope....but i will try it next time i am there...is it like we have it in the UK..cooked in a similar way...? I must confess i did not see any fish and chips on sale..but then i wasn,t looking...

We call it batter - same as you use the word pierogi which I would call ravioli or similar

As for the cooking method, deep frying at hot temperatures can work out healthier than shallowing frying where all the oil is just soaked up.. I had a friend make me kotlets a while ago I couldnt eat them when I noticed the amount of oil they had soaked up :(

The link was broken, but I guess you can pickle cucumber, Ive just never seen it in a chipper over by mine..I do like gurkins though..Technically we are both correct, ghurkins are baby pickled cucumbers :D

Go into a Jewish shop and they do sliced pickled cucumbers which look like... ordinary salad cucumbers! lol

i always think of gherkins as those small things which look really wrinkled. Polish-style pickled cucumbers are mostly much bigger, and look/taste different. Those I've seen on the counter look a lot bigger than what I would call "gherkins", more like the Polish varieties but probably not Polish.

Oddly enough, I've never asked for one. I've always wondered if they are just for display, like edible pot pourri or something, lol.

GRRRRR this thread made me want to go to the fish and chip shop, but I couldn't, because I'd had a few drinks and couldn't drive, so I had to make do with some Cantonese-style pork and prawn fried rice. Good job I had some BBQ pork and prawns left! But I wanted FISH AND CHIPS really!!! grrrrrrr!!! lol

i tried both and i find them too greasy, a perfect recipe to make yourself sick after a night out too ha ha (not talking from personal experience!). oh and i NEVER had a kebab, those things just look rank.

Ergo, the chippers one and one is a lot healthier than the pubs. Also the chippers fish is fresh, whilst must pubs bulk buy their fish.

I've been to my local Zabrze Tesco today, no fish, no chips, and NO CHEDDAR cheese :( :( I'll have to venture a little bit further and really get my arse to Gliwice's tesco ; o

They use pre-packaged and pre-battered, half cooked flown in from godknows where fish...Give me a good chipper any day of the week with freshly battered and fresh fish..

Its in the deep fryer for a matter of minutes - if drained well there's no grease on it, just nice crisp batter and tender flakey white cod inside...tripple cooked chips are devine - crispy and a real treat.

I actually quite like baked skins and grilled / steamed fish..but, we're talking about a once in a blue moon treat for fish and chips...so its not too bad..

I weaned myself off fried food and now am to the point I have given it up entirely. I don't even eat it on the weekends, anymore. Even if it is fried for a few minutes, that's long enough for the batter to absorb plenty of oil. Even if you drain it by putting it on paper, it still has plenty. Put an order of fried chips in the bag and that doubles the fat grams and it's not healthy.
I used to eat at LJS which is somewhat like English fish and chips, and it's good, but too unhealthy, so I gave it up.
