Herald Scotland: Panic as anti-Polish hate crime sweeps Scotland

In early December Rafal Gorski returned to his home country, Poland, planning never to return to Scotland. The racist insults and harassments, the taunts of “F***ing Polish – go back to Poland”, threats of violence and attacks on his family home were so bad he couldn’t deal with the stress of life here anymore.

Though the Gorskis say they were always polite to their neighbours, the abuse quickly began: a barrage of racist insults, a raised finger, filthy water poured on their balcony, the breaking of their satellite dish, and then threats of physical violence.

The Gorskis are not alone. Poles and other Eastern Europeans are experiencing a rising tide of racist abuse and violence. The Federation of Poles in Great Britain says there has been an annual 20% rise in racist incidents.

I really feel bad for all those hardworking Poles who goes there and get treated like dogs...

I was actually going to travel to Scotland this summer. But after reading this article i've decided not to spend a single penny on this rotten uncivilized country.

Haha, this article is funny as hell!!!! David, you have a strange mind. Believing what u read in papers. Strange as all the Poles I know in Scotland are having the time of their lives and so are the Scots who party with them during the weekends ;)

From almost all that I hear, the Poles in Scotland are having a great time too. There will always be a few idiots that spoil it but they attack their own too. Sok, off to the joke thread for you, son.

Incidentally, "racist incidents towards Poles" didn't exist before 2004. A 20% year-on-year rise from nothing is still pretty much nothing.

But most Poles in Scotland have it great and mix with the Scots no problem. This thread is a non starter.

Like who??? I know hundreds of Poles in Scotland and none have ever said this to me. Strange one Pole gets upset cos he cant hack it so cries racist! Most other Poles just get on with life and enjoy there time in Scotland.

The very fact that he hasn't been to Scotland says sth. I, as a Scot, wouldn't venture into some areas with certain colours. Walking through Govan with a Celtic top? Eh, no! Even green is bad enough. You'd have to hope the hools had achromatopsia :)

We all know that stats tend to be wide of the mark and, of course, merely give numbers. There are a hundred and one other factors that cause things. How do we know that he didn't play loud music, provoke or offer cabbage for the 100th time? :)

Reading that article, the neighbour just sounds like an arse full stop. If it wasn't "Polish", it would be "Fenian" or whatever.

Exactly, I was raised in Govan and Renfrew, Paisley too. Being threatened at knife point was a weekly event when I was a lad, but you soon learn to turn the tables on the other kunts.

Isthatu2 made a good point. The English are more likely to be targetted. My friend is brown and from England. He loves Glasgow and many Scots like him (his bro lives there) but he is often threatened by mindless thugs when there. He has since stopped going.

I didn't read the article but it seems to me that everyone everywhere is a little more protective of jobs, etc, during these tight times. So naturally they'd first lash at outsiders. This is happening over here too with our influx of Mexicans.

And can it be that the UK is so welcoming to the filthy Muslim invaders but hostile to a few decent Polish workers?? This would make no sense to me. What, PC and policy protect Muslims but not Poles??

Davie, 25k moved to Aberdeenshire. So, many many in Aberdeen. Thankfully, there are plenty jobs for Poles to do through job centres. My Scottish friends speak well of them.

Inverness? There is a huge Scottish-Polish friendship society there and a guy on this forum mentioned it around 3 years ago. There are also Catholic churches which embrace them.

Aha, oops. If 6k moved to Gliwice? The same, Davie. An initial welcome but then the realities would hit in. If they could speak Polish really well then I think some Poles may feel threatened.

erm,how about,unlike dumbass yanks like you we know that muslims per se arnt filthy invading scum.....or how about most of us in the UK have grown up alongside muslim kids,most of them are pure british,having 20,000 Poles all of working age turning up within a few months in a small city is more what Id class as an invasion.
