Funny, working for a summer language school/camp this summer. Along with over 100 kids of over 15 nationalities, we had a special group of over 30 Japanese catholic schoolgirls (yes, double your fetishes!).

One day they went on a trip to Old Trafford and then to a major shopping centre. On returning, the Japanese team leaders complained to the course director that there had been no sightseeing tour, like in London, and they weren't shown anything cultural!

Considering they were team leaders to a 30+ group of customers who weren't into the shopping fixes the Russian kids seemed to thrive on, I think he was smart enough to try to save his job. Compared with a London bus-top trip, where would you take them in Manchester? (I honestly don't know, I don't know it that well)

Simply Red are pants and Mick Hucknall's a t***, but at least he can sing.

Virtually no Manchester bands glorify gun/knife crime, or encourage the burning of gays - unlike a lot of London's MC "talent" these days.

The Japanese are a little strange though, so who knows what they would like? I wouldn't have a clue!

But they do seem to like walking around with cameras, and there's plenty to photograph round here - I always take my camera with me on days with nice weather, and there's enough to keep me going for a long time yet :)

I have som good memories from Manchester. Especially staying at the Castlefield hotel next to the museum you posted a picture from above, the hotel is brilliant with a football hall, running track, swimming pool, squash halls, weight rooms, snooker rooms and a bar next to the football hall. More hotels like this, please! But the weather, man..the weather, how do you cope? Waking up and seeing the whole year pass by in one hour outside your window. I'm not kidding, it had all four seasons in just one morning. Sunny, cloudy, rainy and in the end..snow, before the sun came back again. Finding out what to wear was a b*itch. English weather at it's best...

I went to Manchester about ten years in a row up until 2005 or so, to watch Manchester United play at OT and a fair amount of away games. I do NOT remember Manchester from the pictures you posted here...something serious has happened to the skyline...I remember they took away our favourite pub at the intersection where Sir Matt Busby road starts..but this is crazy.

My biggest experience there, apart from watching Manchester United, was when they bombed the Arndale center...(I believe it was the IRA). And being told NOT to go to Moss side after eight o'clock at night. Otherwise we had a great time in Manchester, nightclubs were good, restaurants also, although I got a bit sick of the lack of trees and grass in the city centre after two weeks...

On the other hand, the same gang of friends stopped by Warszawa for one evening this summer, and we were very impressed with the old town. After a night out, we walked for quite a stretch along the old city centre and the buildings were magnificent. To think that all of that was rebuilt after the war is mindboggling. Now, why couldn't they have made ALL of Warszawa like that? What we saw outside of the old town is better not spoken of.

We're used to it :) I wouldn't want to deal with 40 degree summers like they have in Wrocław either :)

And it's the climate which helped make Manchester wealthy in the first place, so don't knock it ;)

Oh, I've just thought of a couple more to add to the list:

18. Piccadilly Station just totally rules over Warszawa Centralna (but then, where doesn't? lol). And I didn't even mention Warszawa Zachodnia, did I. That would be cruel, even for me :D

19. We've got loads of branches of TK MAXX, so we can wear designer clothes at half price, which makes us look classy; while you have to dress in chavvy fake market clothes at normal prices, which makes you look Polish :p

All you needed to do was take a 10 minute tram ride and you would have been at the largest municaple park in Europe :D Complete with 2 golf courses a putting range, boating lake and miles of open spaces - oh there's a little farm there too ;0) I agree there isnt a great deal of green space in the city centre, but you have to remember it was an industrial town (although at one time was just farm land - but progress is progress), the heart of the industrial revolution which made Britain very very rich!
