Matura - Does it meet the entrance requirement for English University?

Hi, hoping someone can help me here.. My partner passed the Matura 8 years ago and is hoping to start University here in the UK next year. So far the Uni has not been very forthcoming with information regarding required entry qualifications. Does anyone here have experience of this and does Matura count as equivalent A Levels when applying to Uni? Many thanks Dow

So she did the 'old' matura. It's going to come down to a decision of the individual university frankly. With the new matura some places do have policies in place (e.g. scores of between 70% and 90% in four subjects at extended level) but the old one is a different kettle of fish. From what I know about the old matura, there's no way I'd ever let anybody onto any higher education course just on the basis of them having passed the matura!

It depends, old math matura what much harder than the current one. It is like that because they have added it as an obligatory subject this year and were afraid of that maaany students would not pass it at all - which wouldn't be a surprise taking into considerations that many students didn't learn much math ,they knew it's not gonna be a matura subject and they are not gonna need it. It is probably gonna get a bit harder every year from now on though.

Best advice is to email the Faculty of the Uni of your choice.
The Secretariat will help you all they can. But please, give as much details as you possibly can, i.e. age, status, exams passed (i.e. Old Matura, subjects and marks gained), level of English (exams passed), reasons for wanting to study the subject, how you're going to fund your studies, what work experience you already have (not very much to do with studies, but may just sway the Faculty Director). Please do it before the end of term.
