Poles do a U turn: England to Poland and then back to England again.

The Polish Wave Returns to the UK

More and more Poles are heading back to the UK after failing to find an employment in Poland.

Tightening economic conditions of Britain and the weakening of the pound made Poland an attractive option to many Poles living in the UK, which meant that hundreds of them returned home. But as Poland also faces an economic slowdown, they struggle to find a decent job there, so decide to return to the UK.

I couldn't connect to the article the OP posted but the news here is depicting a different story for some Polish people :(

I'm not sure what to make of this. Surely the whole point of making a decision is having the resolve to stick to it.

"Charlotte McHugh of the charity said some of their passports had expired, but it cost a lot to travel to London to replace them so they were trapped."

We all know when our passports are due to expire, so if things are looking bleak a few months or so before they run out, then it's time to act. Maybe I'm being cynical, but isn't it a tad convenient to be able to say "I can't go home now as my passport as expired!" ?

People should take some personal responsbility and make sure that they have some emergency money for such things or return home before it runs out.

Do I understand this correctly: Polish folk can't return home because they don't have a passport.

If so, it's bollocks. Polish folk can travel to the UK and back on their ID card.

So, the only thing stopping them is cash for a ticket.

Even less reason then to live in a tent and wait for the soup-kitchen to open.

Borrow the money for the ticket from a really good friend and go ! Pay them back when the good times return.

Some people seem to enjoy being miserable.

True.
And there is enough traffic to cadge a lift with someone - no problem.

Still, dont let that get in the way of a good story. ;-)

I dont know why but I have a feeling they are just afraid to go back to Poland
Laugh of the neighbours/friends/family etc. they are loosers or feel of shame could be a main factor not to do so.
Thats my idea why they can be so desperate to be there even in so miserable conditions.

They were all rats who left a sinking ship. Let these gold hunters stay in the UK. We are doing just fine without them here in Poland.

This was the thread I wanted to use as evidence before. It's important for different reasons. However, it tends to be the romantic, pie-in-the-sky types that flutter and the practical ones can stand by their decisions.
