HI, All. I'm curious about one thing that I've foundc while living on the Island. Can someone clarify?

Observations:

-there are more Americans and Germans in GB than any other foreign group

-nobody talks about it

-nobody talks to me about Germans, apart from a really alcoholic Scot, who only wanted to know if I hate Germans much

-there isn't much German merchandise, apart from cars. Definitely no fashion

-a German lady I know feels liked

-if I talk to English young people about Germans, they stall and change the subject

-extremely brain damaged managers from my previous job thought that we Poles fear Germans as masters.

My observations are not falling into any conclusions as of yet. My man tried to ask his colleagues at one time, but received no answer...

So, now I'm asking - what's with the Gerries, Brits?

Sorry, but what the hell is German fashion anyway ?!

Regarding the substance of your post, taking a wild guess here, three words:

Two world wars.

No: there are far more Poles in the UK than Yanks and Germans combined.

French community in London area counts about 300,000 ppl. They should be pretty visible with their fashion, food, etc considering that most of them are having non-menial jobs.

But that's fashion created by Germans as opposed to german fashion ; )

Seriously! I'm not being pedantic, I took it to mean street fashion.

Paul Costelloe and Phillip Treacy are well known Irish designers but you would have to look very carefully to see the average Irish man or woman wearing their stuff!

Most Germans in the cities are fairly well dressed. It's not all lederhosen and uniforms.

Fashion across Europe is pretty much just blending together anyway.

An incredibly stylish helmet mind you, and Boss designed uniforms.

Mindless consumerism and herd mentality isn't just an American phenomenon, it's just one of the best received exports.

Our white socks are notorious for their brutality!

German shops, like Lidl (I think it's German).

The Royal Family

Protestantism

German beers (have been in the pubs/shops for a while)

Adidas, Puma, Haribo

It's also worth remembering that having had a victorious army of occupation in germany for the last 65 years the British have also been stealing the better looking Frauleins and bringing them to UK for a number of years and teaching them about civilisation (driving on the left etc)

I lived in Scotland for 24 years and Germans were never an issue. I studied with a few Germans during my postgrad and some were nice, some weren't. There was never a need to analyse them as they were so few.

Let's not sidetrack this one, lads. I said it elsewhere that Germans love the Highlands. Much money comes from them. They behave themselves and seem to like the fleisch (meat) on offer. Boy, German tourists are often overweight ;)

Of course. Disziplin!
A research, shortly released, says that Germans are the 2nd overweight nation in Europe, after Britains...and of course we like everything cheaper - saving money...;-)

What I saw on the beaches this summer from Germany is more for hiding in the basement. These younger generations have different focuses....

I was amazed in Berlin at how many grubaski there were. It is a centre of commerce but there were meat stands everywhere. They weren't short of options either. I used to like that stuff as a kid when I didn't gain weight and my metabolism was better. Nowadays, I rarely venture from salads but there are lapses :)

The Brits once had an empire, the Gerries had Hitler. So when you ask what it is between these two, is ....... they both would like to be the dominant nation in Europe.
The Brits have a similar thing with the Froggies, but they are weedy turncoats.
Both Brits and Gerries deem other european nations below them. Lets face it, who calls the most shots in the EU ?
Between them, they rule Europe.
When they meet eachother in a football fixture, it,s more than football, it,s national pride at stake.

hey, the scots love the Germans, I remember in a village outside Berlin once there was a sign on a shop saying "No English allowed" :D
They refused to serve me until I told them I was Scottish, I got a free bottle of JD for that :)

Yeah, they seem to see the Scots in a much more positive light, the French too due to the Auld Alliance between us. The Scots tend to travel better and our Tartan Army is well known for its interaction/mingling with others.

The scots are not really British, or they,d rather not be. lol

Nothing, like a wee bit of mingling, but its better when it proceeds to the interaction, and I hope the others are the female sort Seanus lol

But curiously that seems to be more a one sided thingy....Germans don't have that rivalry with the English as with the...say....Dutchies...

(But beating them is still nice!)
