Posting from UK to Poland....not good!

I sent a small package to Warsaw from London on the 1st May...it hasn't arrived yet, am I to assume its been lost or worse stolen? It was sent standard rate, not insured or of high value.

Which end of the postal services has the worst reputation, UK or Poland?

Experiences and comments welcomed.

I run a website and send small parcels from Poland around the world, but mainly to the UK. In my experience I would say both Poczta Polska an Royal Mail are both "satisfactory" and nothing more. Our post to/from Germany seems to be the quickest.

We have had a couple of parcels "go missing" from the UK to Poland that weren't registered delivery. I am sure there are some thieving b******s somewhere along the line, but I wouldn't like to say where. I have read a number of articles about how Royal Mail sometimes use agency staff when they are busy and half the time the post goes missing or just gets dumped.

The only other thing regarding Polish post is that it's incredibly primitive. Check out Poczta Polska's website - it totally sucks! Is there any other country in the EU where the post service doesn't have online tracking? Hopefully that will change soon now that they are losing business to the new private post companies like InPost....

A parcel sent by my parents from Poland reached me after about a month. Just be patient (it may have been stolen, though).

The problem with PP is that's a state-run company. And they rely on state subsidies instead of seriously developing and compete on free market.

There's a big postal protest going on in Warsaw at the moment too, which may be causing it to be slower than usual.

Recently sent 2 parcels by post from UK to Kraków (framed pictures from my visit in December). Both arrived safely, undamaged within a week!

International signed for - takes 3 days to get there. Have personally used it countless times and actually, am going to use it again today :-)

Just out of interest in which direction? UK to Poland or Poland to UK? My experience is 4 or 5 working days from Poland to the UK.

Sent 2nd package, signed for, took three days.....still don't trust postal services....institutional, state sanctioned thieves IMHO!

Over the last 6 months, I've received 5 parcels from England and 2 have 'gone missing.' The missing parcels were sent by registered post and the Royal Mail have confirmed that these parcels definately left English shores. So I can only assume that the Postal Post service is responsible for its loss.

I send parcels regularly to Poland.
ALLWAYS International signed for.
It cost a couple of £ more.

But its worth it for peace of mind.
And NO fail to arrives :))

My package arrived in Poland on June 7th from the states. I haven't seen it yet. Any ideas?

Nope...file a claim if it was insured........but theres a postal strike now, so maybe wait!

It is well known that the Polish Post office is full of thieves. Lots of things go missing. I have heard that it is safer to have things sent to firm's addresses as it has a higher chance of arriving but to private homes? No way, Jose!!

The Post Office has been striking on and off for some time now. A new one has just started but, thankfully, not here in Silesia. Having said that, I should have some EasyJet tickets in my possession by now.

I'm still waiting for a contract sent from the UK 2 weeks ago...... I think couriers are the only fairly reliable wa of recieving mail.

This is a problem I have. Send one parcel and it usually arrives. Send more than one and maybe half of them arrive. This has been going on for years. And don't think that registered post helps. It doesn't.

Always send parcels by recorded delivery... If they lose it then the postal service HAS to pay compensation which would mean your parcel gets the priority.

No. First they have to track the parcel. And when it gets to Poland someone is playing the system. Also, Have you ever tried to make a claim and then follow it up with phone calls.

If they cannot locate the parcel then royal mail has to pay compensation. It says it on the card that they give to you as a receipt. It is the reason why people send parcels recorded delivery, myself included.

The point is that the time given to locating the parcel is too great.

Yeah I had a problem with a parcel sent from Poland to the UK which was recorded delivery but didn't arrive. I had to wait 28 days from sending before they would look at tracking it. Tracking it took me 3 months. They sorted it out in the end but as Wroclaw says, if it takes 4 months in total to sort out then sometimes it just isn't worth the hassle...

Letters sent in Poland often arrive to their recipients late – or do not arrive at all – according to the Supreme Chamber of Control (NIK).

The Chamber looked at 50 Poczta Polska premises – including the General Management Office, IT Center, and 14 regional branches – in terms of availability and quality of services and financial flows. The audit covered the years 2006-2008.

According to NIK investigators, it is now harder than ever to get to the post offices, because their number is decreasing.

To work at an optimal level, there should be 8,200 postal offices around the country, however in the years 2006-2008 there were only 7,900 in operation.

“One in ten of them are not suitable for disabled people. There are also villages in which there is not one single Poczta Polska [office],” say NIK president Jacek Jezierski.

he, he, so true. I have used the post office in other countries and have little memory of it, yet with Poczta Polska I still have stories to tell. Not a good one either.

Grrr.........

what's standard? going east, poczta polska is better than any national mail carrier until you hit russia.

Can you think of any in Western Europe that are half as bad?

32 years in UK and no problems. Not one. 10 years here and missing mail several times a year.

Why should I? I live, vote and pay taxes here. The problem is Poczta Polska's mediocrity, not my presence or your xenophobia.

I don't know how to tell you that, but things turned worse with Royal Mail in the last ten years. (sad but true)
