Would you like to participate in PhD research that is exploring:

If and how existing stereotypes about Central and Eastern European workers affect Polish and Slovenian workers on the UK labour market?

I would be especially interested (but not limited to) to hear experiences of those that have been accessing work through employment agencies or internet and have been employed in the service sector. Likewise I would like to hear from all, who want to take part or feel strongly about the topic and think they could contribute to this research with their experiences or knowledge. The aim of the research is to uncover the existing practices on the labour market and provide in-depth understanding of workers’ needs that should be taken into account when developing future practices and support structures for diverse migrant workers on the UK labour market.

Taking part
Interviews are conducted in person, in English language and last approximately one hour. The identity of all who will take part, as well as the names of their employers, will remain anonymous, and participation in the research will be confidential. The exact time and location will be arranged individually and upon participant’s needs and wishes.

If you are interested in taking part, please contact:

I went with my Polish friend to an employment agency in Leeds. In Poland he was a sales manager and has a degree in administration and marketing from Warsaw University. The agency has two sections office and industrial. Although he speaks near-perfect English, as soon as they heard he was Polish the old bag behind rhe counter directed him to the industrial section.
