Wanting Polish lessons in or around Huddersfield UK

Hello,

Im an English girl engaged to a lovely Polish man & Im finding it very hard to lean the Polish language by myself. I have picked up a few words & phrases & have been learning online with Byki but I just can't seem to pick it up.

We live in the UK so I don't need it to get by but would love to be able to understand him when he talks to his friends & family instead of sitting like a spare part. I also want to feel comfortable going to his parents in Poland with him.

If anyone knows of any classes or reasonably priced home tutors in my area I would be grateful if you could let me know.

Polish lessons in the UK are few and far between, I don't think it's realistic to be able to find one (I managed to find one in my area, but only when the term had ended :( ). If you're determined enough, though, you can definitely learn well enough on your own and with your fiancée. When I started learning it I didn't know any Polish people or have any basis whatsoever to start with, but I did enough self-studying and eventually got the expertise of various Poles to rely on.

Don't underestimate the internet, it's your best friend for all kinds of information.

http://translate.google.com/# - it's pretty accurate for basic stuff, but don't rely on it. If you input one word only it also offers alternative meanings and synonyms, which is very handy

I would advise learning basic vocabulary, learning the pronunciation (this is easy, you'll learn it in a day with your fiancée), wrapping your head around the basic grammar rules (conjugations, absence of articles). Beyond that you can venture in whatever direction suits you.

Hi Ciesielska!

I can certainly arrange Polish lessons for you! I run my own online language learning business. We do language tuition through Skype. It is actually much better than learning face to face! Why?
- you can have lessons when you want
- your lessons can be as long as you want, eg: 30 minutes, 1 hour etc
- it's CHEAPER than face to face lessons
- you can cover all aspect of language learning: grammar, reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary
- you learn what YOU want to learn
- you can do it from home or work or wherever you have access to skype.

We only use qualified, native speakers of the target language (in this case Polish).

Are they qualified to teach the Polish language, or are they simply graduates of Polish philology? There's a world of difference between the two.

That is really nice of you!! Im very busy this week but I will definately add you on skype & hopefully we can sort something regular out. My fiance is very impatient & isn't very helpful lol :D I do know some basic stuff but Im finding it so hard.
