American citizenship help...

Nata, please dont do that to yourself.. you will end up unhappy. get a job or student visa. go to mexico, just dont do it.

Well, I wouldn't advise her to go there... She might end up as a prostitute or never come back. Getting a student visa... it's not as easy as it used to be. When you're an international student you have to pay FULL amount tuition fee (which is 100-150% higher than domestic students pay). Plus there's no guarantee you'll get a work permit (even though there are very high chances).
IF there's a sincere guy who might help, that MIGHT work... but as you say - nobody can guarantee she can meet the right guy.

Just to you know, I came here from Europe having a student visa. Almost all "my friends" married for papers. I was tot honest to do it. Now, I realized it is the only way. I'm ambitious. I can't live how I live right now forever. I want to have a chance to see my family and at the same time rigt to stay in USA just because I have more opportunities here. I don't want to cheat on anybody, I'm telling truth that I'm looking for help...

I can understand you. I was a student on a J-1 visa too and the only way for me to get permanent residence was to either get married to an American citizen or to finish a 4-year college. I managed to finish the college -- but I paid all my earnings for tuition fees. I couldn't leave the country for 5+ years... Now I got a green card. Hopefully you'll find the right person who can help you out. Just make sure what are their true intentions. Good Luck,

Thank you. I'm not proud of what I'm going to do but my intentions are clear. I'm educated but craving for more. I wish US goverment could give young people a chance...

Let's hope there will be amnesty soon. My bet is - at the end of the current US administration's period (unless the "war on terror" will be an on-going process throughout this century...).

I heard there are very little chance for amnesty. Especially when there is still "war on terror" going on. I think the US gov will sooner allow free access for Polish people than do amnesty.

That is why I just don't want to wait any more. I've been waiting enough. Time goes by and I just want to start working on my future. But I would love to have my future built here... I'm so frustrated.

I do have these. And I still work. But for me it has started a long time ago and I'm so ready for change. I work for this country and I still pay taxes. I have so many plans but right now they are only like a dream because I'm not able to make them true...

I'm not a student any more, I graduated in my country. I stayed in USA even though my visa expired. That is why I don't really see a chance in my case other than marrage- agreement- because I'd prefer to cheat on government than a person.

Oh, ok - it reminds me myself several years ago (but it was much easier to get the right status back then). Well, I think you're right - the quickest way would be thru marriage. HOWEVER - why don't you mix business with pleasure though? I'm sure there are many men in the US looking for Polish women to marry - maybe you will find your match on this forum smile

Hello Nata, be very cautious with an expired visa! If I understand the laws clearly for permanent residency via marriage....you may not be able to get married if you are not on a VALID visa. If you were a J-1when you leagaly entered the country, you needed to return home upon expiration and /or 30 days travel time, for about three months before you are eligible for another visa. Or you could have petitioned for an extension of your student visa. But that almost never happens! If you are past your 30 days vacation/travel after expiration of the J-1 visa you can be extradited upon notice! For example; if youget pulled over by the police they will check you identity. It will come up illeagal alien and they will take you into custody. no chance of discussion. another example would be when you apply for a marriage license! They will check your identity. If you get caught, you will have a very difficult time of getting future visas of ANY type to the US. So, if you are past the limitation, you are to late. If you still have some time left, you better make a choice quiclkly. If you are late, you might want to contact your polish embassey in DC. Good luck and I hope this information helps. That is right Peter, I have very good boyfriend who understands my concerns... I'm not ready for real marriage yet. When I marry for real I would love to marry forever. I would like to be independent first, have a choice and if situation finally allows say yes, knowing that it is for love only not for anything else. I'm looking for somebody who may become friend (helping me and ), since we will have to spend some time together, who will understand and respect all situation. It is not easy to take that big risk. But I have only good intentions.

Thank you but I know all these things. I already live in fear because there is nothing to do with my visa any more. I applied for extension without result. Now I can't visit my family ;( what is unbearable the most ) and I can't really work in better jobs trying to use my degree, at least trying... I'm stuck and who likes that feeling?

Assuming you have already married him - if one day he calls you and asks to have sex with him otherwise he'll inform on you - what would you do? would you go to the police...? whom are they going to believe: an American citizen or a Polish immigrant [I feel Poles don't usually have a great reputation among government officials]? you need to think carefully about it and unless you know the person very well (or someone who you know has suggested this person to you), you shouldn't be thoughtlessly deciding to do it.
maybe you'll be able to find an employer who would sponsor you? how about your boyfriend - maybe he'll be successful in getting permanent residency?

I'm not going to marry stranger and it is not like I'm going to do it tomorrow. I know what the risks are. Thousands of them. You are right it is not easy to check that person, it is even impossible. I don't believe I will find somebody in this forum... I was rather hoping to hear from somebody who needs marriage for their own business (like military guys). Hear from people what they think about it, hear about options... That I don't apply any more...

I don't know details but somebody used to told me that was one guy looking for girl for fake marrage. I think that had something to do with higher salary if he had a wife and more vacations... I'm just giving an example why people are doing this... I wouldn't trust somebody who is not taking risk at all. It goes for both sides. One is making payments other is receiving them and some other benefits...

I think you are the greater risk. Marriage is a sacrament not a back alley alternative to citizenship. As a Polish American who served his country for 22 years in the military I am sick of "immigrants" coming here and devaluing our American citizenship. Please go home. You have already admitted to not following the rules. Why should a person like you be rewarded with citizenship? American citizenship is something to be earned not scammed...

Well well well. It's sad you say "please go home". I think a native American could tell you the same - how would you feel? Maybe you were lucky enough to get a citizenship after your parents or wife, but it doesn't mean you have the right to tell anyone to "go home" (especially you are an immigrant too). Do you still have a Polish citizenship? I'm not sure why you feel you are or can be a better man than a person who tries to find a better life in America... Exactly like your parents or grandparents did when they first came to the US. Why have YOU been awarded with a citizenship? Have you ever called your ancestors "scams" just because one of them first came here as an immigrant? Are you positive they followed "the rules"?

Not to mention the fact Polish soldiers as one of the last in Europe still fight arm by arm with American soldiers in Iraq. But it obviously doesn't mean anything to you, they are all scams after all...

Because I appreciate every single day here, because I'm working paying taxes for this country, because I'm ambicious and educated and still want to continue my education, because I don't get drunk and don't have any problems with the law- I don't get tickets, I don't do drugs - and I'm not cheating on anything else more that the fact that I don't have legal papers, because I'm working hard to have my family experience better life in my country and that it is not my foult that they couldn't have it before. You don't know how long I've been waiting for opportunities, chances not only for myself. Don't tell me that we all are devaluing "your American citizenship" because you don't sound like Polish at all.
