Why do Americans (and Canadians) hate Polish people?

I've come across lots of speech of hate towards Poles in the internet. The recent plane crash of polish president has encourage some american users to make very disgusting jokes about the tragedy (ppl died!) and polish people generally. I've also chat with some Canadian who was also superior towards me as a Pole.

The question is why do you spread this nonsense? Are you using the Internet as your source of "reliable information"? Is wikipedia your source of reference? The generalizations you make here are just silly... You have some morons post idiotic messages and all of a sudden you know how Americans think. If I was to use your train of thought then I'd assume that Poles as a nation hate Jews. They also hate foreigners and Germans and Russians in particular. They despise the Czechs and the Slovaks and view themselves as the smartest and nicest people on earth. Why? Because many Polish people say so on the Internet so it must be true... Well, I assume they're all Polish people? Fortunately Poles never make jokes and hurtful comments about other nationalities... Yeah, right...

Anyways, without sounding mean your assumption is as illogical and ignorant as it gets...

The reason why you hear some Americans make Anti-Polish comments is because you have good and bad in every nation and group of people. Generally its low class people who disparage other groups of people. Usually what people say on the internet to others they would never say face to face to someone.

They do not hate, but they do make the dumb joke. In fact, the most famous joke maker, Arlene Spector will not be running for reelection in Pennsylvania. That is the price he pays for insulting the Polish!

You're right about Arlen Specter.

I heard Arlen Spector's so called Polish "jokes" he told 2 years ago hurt him with many Polish American Pennsylvanians. Polish Americans are one of the largest voting ethnic groups in Pennsylvania.

Even though Arlen Specter apologized for his ethnic slurs against Polish people, there were still many Polish Americans and non-Polish Americans who felt there was something wrong with Specter for telling these anti-Polish slurs in the first place.

I live in Poland and I've never heard any anti geraman or anti russian joke. In the other hand I think we are the only nation in the world to talk jokes about themselves... but polish jokes about polishmen are funny and really inteligent ;)

I've heard a few, although not necessarily 'nasty' ones as playing on stereotypes. Coming from Britain I can assure you that Poland is NOT the only country to make jokes about themselves.

Seanus it works two ways, some will say what've just said and some will say and post threads here about how polish people can't fight back, don't talk back are quite and submissive heh where ever you go there's a minefield and.. haters gonna hate.
These forums are a very good example - lots of threads with exactly contrary ideas about what poles are like and so on..

And on the more on the topic note I don't think they do. As I said haters gonna hate, and you'll find the worse kind of haters on the internet. Where ever you look there's language bastardization and insults fly rapant. People you meet on the internet should never, under any circumstances, be a generalization of others, and your base to judge them or stick labels to them.

It´s very stupid to say "all Americans and all Canadians hate Poles". It´s hard to believe that more than 300 million people hate people they probably never heard about ...or how many Americans you know that could locate Poland on the map? Seriously, say "why some of the Americans /and canadians I know hate Polish people"? THat would be more logic.

My sister lives in Poland, just finished a conversation with her a couple of minutes ago and she said: "chory narod" when commenting on the current situation in the south.

So here is your answer I think.
Polish government does not care for its own people, even if they lives are being in danger and they need HELP.
So if there are a couple of people who happen to be Americans/Canadians who have some opinions about Poles is irrelevant at the moment and you should be helping your Polish folks instead of wasting time on the internet, no?

I am in Canada and most people here have other things to worry about then hate Poles, believe me.

True, frd. Foreigners should write 'my friend, who happens to be Polish, ......). There are some discernible traits but there is no reason to hate. I don't imagine that Northern Americans think about Poles too much. If they do, the comments I've seen have been highly complimentary.

To all of you. I see that my thread is like putting a stick into anthill... It wasnt my aim to annoy anyone, or make a fuss. Of course I know that majority of Americans and Canadians have nothing against polish but still there are some who are really hateful or scornful to Poles and I have no idea why.
