Finding a job without work permission in the US

Hello all,

Have few questions. I wanna go to US, in case I wouldn't receive work permission - can anybody help me on below queries:

- few year ago I was on students exchange, so I possess SSN - can I use it without taking a risk of being tracked?
- its easy to find a job on black market?
- can I open bank account, take a lease and so on?
- what other difficulties I may obtain?

Despite the fact that you're a troll, I'll bite. Poles who do this fck things up for everyone back at home. Why not just apply for a decent job? I'm not sure if you noticed, but Mexicans have the sht job market pretty much wrapped up.

That depends on where you are, some places are filled with Russians, others Chinese, Korean or whatever dominates in that particular area. No need to give Mexicans a worse reputation than they already have.

If the OP isn't a skilled worker he's going to have trouble applying for a job that will actually give him an H1B visa or equivalent. The core of the problem here is a broken immigration system and the influx of illegal workers take the illegal route because for some it's the only way.

I would not use your old social security number without work permit. If you can't get the work permit, I'd stick to helping out family or friends in exchange for room and board.

In todays economy you dont have a chance. Most manual jobs are taken up by South Americans and every other service related job is in the hands of college grads that cant find work or others who are underemployed.

Of course there are regions and certain professions in the US that are unaffected, parts of the Midwest come to mind and for example skilled jobs like nursing/biomed/computer networks/scientists, but untrained/black market jobs, no chance.

There are places where the majority illegal population doesn't consist of Mexicans? I have nothing against Mexicans at all, if anything I don't like the people that are exploiting them. I don't blame the people taking the sh*t jobs.

f stop Its not the point, I possess 3 years of exp. in administrative / logistics and I don't suffer lack of money for living. I wanna go there cause I like the place, that's it. And its irritating that most of employers don't even reply my emails. I never had this kind of problems in here, any particular suggestions how should I prepare application to achieve the result? The only way they will reply is if they have a job already posted. I routinely entertain myself by checking the websites of few companies I like, for new openings.
But the best way (besides somebody you know in the company giving you a call while the job opening is still only posted internally) is to contact a headhunter. They specialize in specific fields, been known to recruit abroad, and most of the time the employer pays the fee.

You're welcome. But beware, unless you have a highly desired skill, the lack of work permit will be a show stopper. However, if you are an expert on WAAS, for example, drop me an note. Work permit and sponsorship is not a problem at all. ;)

I would think discussion of illegal activities would be something the site staff would want to control to prevent any liability. I hope you get caught and booted out of the USA. Just as any Poles would want illegals or those not following the laws booted out of their nation.

Hopefully nobody will hire you and you will have to leave. But I see f-stop is your contact in the "Polish Underground" in the US. They help each other navigate cheating the system.

No worries. I have saved this thread in case it is needed in the future for any investigation. I would think common sense would prevent people from discussing illegal activities in a public forum but I see not.

Technically yes. In practice, no. SS Administration and INS are two different agencies. If CIA and FBI can hardly get on the same page I doubt SS and INS will. Except when someone blows the whistle, or there is a concrete reason for investigation.

It may be, but it is still illegal.

Bank account yes.
Lease, only if you have some financial backing or a decent job. Working under the table makes you ineligible.

If you use your SS number there will be a record of your income (if you use a bank), there may be records of services you buy (phone, gas, electricity) and some of those may haunt you if you get nabbed by INS as they might be a proofs of your immigration status as an illegal alien, or an alien working in the US illegally, possibly not filing your tax return.

If you can't get the work permit, I'd stick to helping out family or friends in exchange for room and board.

That's considered work too.

Laugh all you want. People get busted all the time for such things. I have read several articles about people's words in internet forums being used in legal proceedings.

You have people here conspiring to subvert immigration and labor laws in the United States. It's not very smart of them.

The OP made quite clear his intent to avoid certain laws. You people would be crapping all over yourselves if this was someone trying to subvert laws in your nation.

It is my nation. I pay taxes there. More than my share actually. This guy can live off of whatever I'm paying. I'll sponsor him with my income taxes.

It's easy to just go hit up a factory and bust 50 people at once in Juarez than to get a subpoena to pull and IP address in a foreign country which wouldn't really result in much of anything.

They've got better things to do.

Maybe you don't realize part of the reason we DO pay such high taxes is because of illegals and the medical and administrative costs involved. America was built by immigrants...but you have to follow the rules.

I really could care less at this point. It would be really nice to know where the money is going in the first place, I highly doubt it is going to American citizens in my own area.

I met lots of expats like you in my years living abroad and seems they hated their country so bad I wondered why they don't give up citizenship.

Here is the problem; if you come here illegally you're going to be exploited. You may have to work the worst and the least paying jobs. If you're cool with that come on over. If you're tough and street smart, you may make it. Something tells me though, if you're asking this question here, you probably won't make it.
