How it works receiving a package from abroad for all of us who aren't residents

I was wondering today how it works receiving a package from abroad for all of us who aren't residents, because I want to receive a package through post, from United States, with books.

I have no idea what address I can give them, because I expect that at the post office they will ask for my ID where of course my french ID address does not match my hotel where I stay in Poland s adress...

What are the possibilities for easy receiving packages from abroad (USA, France, etc)?

It depends if you get an honest postman. Normally they shove a paper in the slot saying they "tried" to deliver and you werent there. Now this is a lie because you will have been there they whole time. It's just they are too lazy to bring it up.

Of course that is assuming it even MAKES it to delivery. I would say about 1/4 of the things I had shipped to me in Poland disappeared never to be seen again.

My recommendation is if it's valuable or irreplaceable use UPS. It is a lot more expensive but they have standards and guarantees.

About the address just use the hotel with your name on it.

AnnaSmithsonn: of course my french ID address does not match my hotel where I stay in Poland s adress... It must be very difficult for you to be in a foreign country. Rest assured that the hotel staff will notify you should a package arrive from...abroad. I can see though that Beelzebub is on bad terms even with the postman. Some gastarbeiters just don't do well.

Ok, mainly my question was: I am visiting most of the time, so for sure I do not stay whole days in my hotel room, just waiting for the postman.

So it is very possible that I cannot get any notice, if they ever make it.

Can I simply just go to the post office and tell my name, and them to look for the package on my name and the address of the hotel? Or they will never do it without a notice paper?
