Dear fellow Polish friends,

Lech Walesa is coming to Chicago January 29th, no joke, and I will leave you all to see why he is coming. This can help change Illinois for the better just like Massachusetts did for Scott Brown earlier.

Wow, how did you make that picture??? I need it!!! And I know this thread will and shall very well receive many comments. Some of you may know what it will be about, but now is the time to talk to the Polish community... time to make history and put an end to corruption in Illinois! The people of Illinois and the Polish population here doesn't deserve this at all.

How much is Walesa getting paid?

(No, I don't buy the IPN witchhunt, but it's hardly a secret that Walesa will endorse anything for the right amount of cash)

I don't understand what you mean, but Walesa isn't taking any money here, he is a well-respected man around the world.

I don't understand what you mean,

I think delphiandomine is talking about Walesa supporting Libertas for money Walesa the surprise guest at Libertas convention

But perhaps what was not so much in the media's eye was the fact that Walesa backed the Lisbon treaty, which Libertas was strongly against.
Walesa will urge Irish to support Lisbon

I don't believe that for one second. Walesa has developed a bad reputation in recent years for being willing to turn up at anything (and being willing to endorse anything) in exchange for money - witness his endorsement of Gadu-Gadu and Libertas as two rather prominent examples.

I don't believe for one second that Walesa would fly to the USA to endorse a political candidate without being paid (and paid well).

Wrap him in cotton wool and keep him away from all obstacles.
Any accident and he will be filing a law suit for compensation.

C'mon, can't be more obvious that this wannabe governor needs some Polish-American votes and tries everything to get them. Cheap, if you ask me, but hey, he's a politician...

Well, I have to say to some of you I am disappointed in some of the posts. Adam is not a pay-to-play politician like Blagojevich was and the other six candidates in this race are business-as-usual politicians. If you want real reform and a fresh new face to our state, you would join Adam's movement. If all of you met him in person, your opinions would be greatly in favor of him. He's a unique individual, coming from 8 generations of a family farm in rural Illinois. He has tough work ethic and he deserves to get the opportunity to fix our state's budget mess.

Why? Walesa is destroying his legacy by associating with anyone that'll pay him enough money - and I don't think anyone here believes for one second that he's associating himself with an American politican for any other reason than money.

You don't live in this country and don't read the news here - while you might believe that he's an All Polish HERO - a significant minority believes that he was a traitor, and the majority of people will regard his presidency as a failure. The fact that he lost his campaign for re-election to an ex-Communist and clear alcoholic should tell you how bad his presidency was. In fact, even your own NY Times stated at one point that there was a very real fear of Walesa becoming dictatorial in the early 90's - he certainly ran Solidarność that way in 1980/1!

AdamForIllinois:

So why's he paying Walesa to endorse him, then? It's a cheap, cynical move designed to appeal to all those "Polish-Americans" who haven't actually visited Poland and know two words in Polish - kielbasa and pierogi.

AdamForIllinois:

I really couldn't care less about him. It's kinda hard to believe a campaign staffer, though.

8 generations of farmers? Ask most Polish people what they think of farmers and especially KRUS...

Mainly because Polish Americans are mostly those that emigrated a long time ago and don't know the details of Walesa's reign, nor do they know or hear about the accusations thrown at him.

Ha ha, Walesa is no better than those he took over from, he was only interested in status and money, there is enough evidence to suggest that he should answer allegations about being a member of the dreaded secret police, to me he is a electrician and should use his talents replacing electric bulbs. He is laughed at by his own people.

Well, it's recorded fact that Walesa was seen by many to be acting like a king within Solidarność in 80/81 - there's even plenty of English language stuff about him doing this.

Nowadays, it's hardly a secret that he's after money and will turn up to the opening of a paper bag if you pay him enough.

bolek:

This is my point - although I don't believe he was, plenty of Polish people do. Whether or not it's true is irrelevant - the point is that he isn't seen as particularly saintly by quite a few people. He's certainly not a national hero as this political staffer seems to think.

However, stupid Polish-Americans will undoubtably believe that Walesa is endorsing this Adam guy because Walesa is nice like that and not because he's being paid a good bit of cash to do so.

With records raided and files burnt, I suppose we will never know the real truth about this man, obviously a lot of people have been paid off to remain silent etc, It was people power who changed the system in a period of time were the system was so rotten and bankrupt that it would collapse anyway. Credit to Walesa anyway for taking the lead, it has made him a rich man.

JUST TO INFORM ALL OF YOU, I SAID HE WAS COMING TO CHICAGO JANUARY 29TH AS THE THREAD'S TITLE SAYS. I NEVER SAID IT WAS AN OFFICIAL ENDORSEMENT!!!

Okay, then let's rephrase delphiandomine's statement: "So why is he paying (or asking) Walesa to come over to the USA, then?"

It's still a cheap, cynical and very obvious move, and it tells quite a bit about the character of this candidate, IMHO.

Who said he is paying for this? You have to understand my point of this thread was to let people know he's coming to Chicago. Since I was born here in Chicago, I regard Walesa a bit higher than some others. Leave the differences aside. I would like to see more Polish individuals come to Chicago. You know, Adam went to Poland in November and was warmly brought around the country. This is a great thing for Polish people and I'm sick of hearing negativity. I didn't post this to have argument.
