Rob Gronkowski has broke the NFL record in getting 20 touch downs in the fewest games - 26. He broke Mike Ditka's record of getting 20 touch downs in 31 games.

Is he better than Meadowlark or Curley?

Congratulations to a true American.

Indeed, his American great-grandfather was also a true American sportsman.

Should be in the off-topic section, though.

theKNOWLEDGE/Delphiadomine,

NO Rob Gronkowski should NOT be in the off-topic section just because you want to diminish the accomplishments of Polish Americans.

Don't even start with your "he is not of Polish ancestry" crap like you always do.

he's an American f.f.s.

He should be - given that his family has been true Americans for at least 4 generations, which guarantees that the "ski" in his name could easily have been Jewish or Ukranian (or indeed, any other small minority such as Kashubian) - you cannot definitively claim him as Polonia - hence - off topic.

Care to provide us with a source that authoritatively proves his Polish ethnicity? Doubt it.

Now now. He sometimes eats pierogies and kielbasas!

Well I have my sources like the Post Eagle newspaper (a non-internet newspaper) but I am not going to play your game Delphiadomine so I am going to hold back for now on that.

In fact I am going to put the burden of proof on you and you give me the percentage of Americans that have SKI in their last name that are non-Polish, especially who grew up in the Buffalo NY area. What percentage is it? 0.5%, 1%?? If even that much?? LOL

Do you want me to give you a hint as to what ethnic newspapers he has shown interest in?

But you are correct in that he and his family are real Americans, so he doesn't go around waving his ethnic flag like some others in America do. I don't think he wants to come across as being ethno-centric which I respect him for. I am a Polish American and I don't go around waving the ethnic flag of my ancestry when I interact with other Americans here.

I gotta admit I just dont care about American/Canadian Football.
It would be better if the two joined and changed their name from football to anything else.
I know the Canadian teams suck more but give a few years of trading and things would equal about.
It would be kind of like the NHL.

I hear what your saying.

I think NFL Football is something that primarily Americans relate to.

Is there a difference in any way (e.g. minor rules differences etc) ? Just curious.

Yes there is a few differences.

Heres what I remember:

CFL: 3 downs (3 chances to get 10 yards I think is the measurement), Canadian fields are bigger (the endzones)

NFL: 4 downs (same distance needs to be covered as CFL)

I believe the balls used have different sizes and team sizes might be different (on field).

Hmmmmm.....

This whole discussion sort of ignores the history of East Prussia / Western Poland. Is Dirk Nowitski somehow now Polish? Are millions of Germans with "-ski " last names somehow now Polish. Poland has many great people, past and present who self-identify as Polish. Please, respect people for who they are, and stop trying to make Poland and Polish people somehow bigger than they are. Germans with " -sky" or "-ski" last names are not Polish. Think Pozen/Poznan.

snowyco/Delphiamdomine,

I hear Dirk Nowitzki is German and Polish.

And there are very few Germans (who don't have some Polish in them) that have Polish last names.

Like I said, very few full blooded Germans have Polish last names.

Also this topic is not about making Polish people bigger than they are. Where did you get that impression? You seem paranoid.

This topic is about what you say, showing RESPECT FOR PEOPLE FOR WHO THEY ARE (your words). I think a guy like Rob Gronkowski deserves some respect for all his accomplishments. Don't you?

By the way the Patriots won again today and Gronkowski scored another touchdown :)

Rob Gronkowski set a record today in touchdowns by a Tight End. He’s also setting records in breaking tackles.
Two tacklers jumped on him and he some how powered out of their grip.

Europeans know all about American football and your world series that's why no one normal plays it......10 seconds of fat people followed by two minutes of ads for burgers, buns and diet coke then 10 seconds of fat people etc. Who in their right mind would watch that?

Good joke. Just because the average American football player is a lot more built with muscle than the average soccer player, it doesn't mean they're fat.

It's tedious, nothing to do with muscles/lard its just monumentally dull.

I don’t understand this soccer pansies stuff either unless I become addicted to Burt Reynolds movies which are equally dull.

Messi, Xavi, Fabergas and Iniesta have more skill and talent than the whole NFL combined.

Football is the most supported sport on the planet, thus, its the superior sport.

There is little or no individual flair in American football, except for maybe the QB. Everyone else plays like well instructed robots.

Even the QB normally does exactly what he's told by the offensive coordinator - they rarely make "audibles" to change things.

I dunno both are exiting to watch and play. Although I wouldn't argue with you on baseball.

Oh yeah, I'm not denying that - when you look at how much skill is required to throw a ball with pinpoint accuracy, it's jaw-dropping. Or even to run exactly where you're supposed to run while some huge brute is charging at you!

(must admit, RN, always been a fan of your version of football - my team is Donegal)

the suffix ski, as you should know, is polish. Ethnic slavs of the non-polish variety, that use the latin alphabet use the suffix sky. The latinized version of Ukrainians' and Russians' last names nearly never contain an ski suffix. I have seen sky, skey, and even skiy. Also, 99.99% of the time Jewish people in America spell their name sky. If Rob's name ended ewski then it would mean that he's family was a szlachta family, probably from prussia (prior to the German take overs of the 1700-1800s, and then most certainly an ethnic Pole. Let us never forget that we poles have been discriminated against. Let us never discriminate against others.
