LOL yea i know a good veggie and grilled fish diet for them. But seriously it's mostly the governments fault putting as these chemicals in fast food, and those little corner stores. People that can afford to eat home cooked food, that comes from a real supermarket look different.

Why do we need to discuss fat Americans on Polish Forum?
The Americans know, fast food is not good for them. And I'm sick of the argument that fast food is cheaper.
I always cook from scratch and it's always cheaper than buying 4 happy meals.

I don't believe it's because of chemicals, it's because fast food has no veggies and very little fruit, just starchy, fried potatoes without skins, beef high in fat, ice cream and frozen custard. No nutritional value and a lot of sodium. It's unhealthy over a long period of time, though once in a while is fine. On special occasions or a couple of times a week but not everyday.
The farmer's market concept is a great idea and making gallons of orange juice as cheap as those artificially colored and flavored drinks.
Pineapples are the best fresh fruit. Most kids would love them if they got a chance to eat them. So much better than canned. Very refreshing on a hot summer's day, too!

It's the Genetically Modified Foods, 70-75% of our food is that way.

Because this is the off-topic lounge, we talk about issues not related to Poland here.

Mcdonald's is way overrated.

If you are eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, you won't get fat unless you are adding stuff to them. It's not just because of g m f s. Americans eat way too much hamburger and ice cream.

I almost never eat fruit, fruit has sugars which turn into fat. Veggies I love, I eat them all the time. Meat is good for you, especially for a man who needs the high protein for energy. But grilled or cooked meat never fried.

Lean meat is good for you. Fast food hamburger typically isn't lean. I love pastrami, turkey, chicken, seafood, salmon. I never eat hamburger. Not even lean hamburger. A good breakfast for me is about ten slices of pastrami. I feel energized after that. Or, I just eat strawberries. Or pineapple, fresh, not canned. I do like fruit because it's refreshing when the temperatures are hot.
Sometimes, I eat whole grain oatmeal with raisins and some sugar and a little bit of low fat milk.
Veggies are awesome!

Damn right. Lose the black pudding though thats the devils work.

im quite a food freak to be honest, i dont see an issue with eating full English breakies in the morning, i mean if youre going to have a meal loaded with carbohydrates and fat best to have it in the morning. One of the secrets to not becoming obese is simply keep to a steady intake of fatty foods and never load carbs after 19:00.

I blame capitalism (profit before people) and poor food education mainly for obesity in the US and UK.

Funnily enough, many veggies are just as bad - carrots, for instance.

You're right any food that leaves you feeling completely full after not eating too much can't be good for you.

They say a large breakfast, in the beginning of the day even if it's pretty greasy is better for you than lets say ,cereal. Because cereal has too much carbs.

Sugar in carrots is not the problem. The problem is processed foods. They have lost almost all the enzymes and nutrients of proper food. One's body however still craves these enzymes and nutrients and so, despite having consumed enough calories from the processed food to maintain one's weight, one still feels hungry, and, since these foods are cheap, one can, and does, keep eating. This is explained by the vegan chef in the OP's video. Refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup are ubiquitous in these foods and they are just wrong for human consumption. That the USA would feed this crap to its children in its public schools is just so stupid it boggles the mind. It's like a science fiction story about a race of beings so stupid that they would find a way to make food as bad as is possible and thereby ruin the health of much of their populace including the majority of their underclass, but its not fiction. Its really happening.

Processed food is not progress. Whoever invented bleaching flour may be seen as the progenitor of an idiotic proccess which by now has resulted in the disgusting turkey sandwiches shown in the video. They are served in public schools, and other institutions, and sold in liquor stores. They appear to simply consist of one clammy slice of meat and two slices of gummy white bread but they actually contain over 100 ingredients most of which are chemical. I once heard a lecturer claim that the lives of the peasants and the urban poor in ancient Greece were relatively better than the lives of the under-class in contemporary America. Initially I though he was wrong but now after seeing what it must be like for the people in the "food deserts" depicted in the OP's video I have reversed my judgement. If an ancient Greek peasant often had nothing but some bread for his supper it was at least nutritious whole grain bread.

Had a friend of the family who worked for Dietz and Watson meats, at their Philadelphia facility. He said if the meat looked like it was going bad it was bleached and sold. It has now come to the point that it's a luxury to eat healthy, organic foods.

Is it really true that it's cheaper to eat a burger than an apple?

That's what lazy fat people tell to justify eating junk food.

A bag of apples (10-12 apples, depending on the size) is about $4. You can get a small burger for $1.

Organic foods are more expensive, that's true, but I can bet my yearly income that eating non organic fruit and veggies is still healthier than junk food.

If you spend a week eating Mcdonald's value meals, it's going to cost roughly $40 for seven days at just one value meal a day. Might be more or a little less, depending on which value meal you choose. That's only for one person. For two, could be $80, three, $120, etc. Feeding a family of four value meals once a day for one week costs around $200 and that doesn't count desserts or eating there more than once a day. It adds up and is quite costly.

pineapples

They can produce acidity too. One cannot live only of fruits alone.

The best option for being healthy is home made food. The traditional way. Of course men and women must cooperate each other, and men can help their wives in the kitchen surely. But no alternative to the taste and health of home made food.

Any outside food lacks health due to its commercial nature. The lack of love and affaction ofcourse is beyond any possibility of replacement :)

So true! Food made from fresh ingredients is so important. I eat both frozen and fresh vegetables. I hear they have the same nutritional value because of flash freezing, but I notice I have more energy after eating the fresh vegetables. Raw, fresh, veggies really do make a difference.
I do love fresh fruit, also. It keeps me hydrated in summer time when it's really hot, and it curtails cravings for sugary snacks.
