Sure, either that or a snide d1ckhead limey comment..

Looks like a cool tradition to me. Lots of California hillsides are empty anyway. Those dudes were just having fun and celebrating in their own way. Cheers to them.

..This depends on local ordinances.. they might have needed a permit and even if it's illegal I doubt it's enforced much. That's some remote Cali town (away from the coast, tourism). Still a lot of ranchers, produce farmers people like that.. they just do whatever the hell usually.

I don't think they were literally firing at the church. The same thing is done in Mexico on Christmas I believe.

Crow, thanks for your posting of Polish and Serbian American celebrations.

I didn't know that's how Serbian Americans celebrated Christmas and their weddings and found those videos interesting.

I think it comes from the times when a mufti called the muslims for prey standing at the top of the minaret.

Again, thanks, thats where I was coming from, the mediteranian countries like Spain and Italy that Ive spent Christmas times in seem "noisy" too in their celebrations unlike boring old UK...that was all :)

LMAO,yes, did come across a bit twee,I guess coz a little part of me was worried it might be something like southerns answer lol The Spanish have some rather "grim" ways of celebrating the expulsion of the Moors and I wondered if this was a similar idea..

Why you, by your own hands (mind) wreck the beauty that you so much love and almost worship? ... that southern made a black stain with that comment on your beautiful thread.

Crow ... trust me I wish for the prosperity (and I think you know) ... but in today's world, love is the key to life ... and hating muslims even in an aggregate way will not help in any cause. There are tatar muslims who are very patriotic about Poland ... never forget them.

Plus ... I've told before ... heart's cannot be chained. No ones ... not even of member's of your or my family ... how long can one go with such mentality?

I don't know if any of my words will ever make you think or take it positively. But, maybe out of a general brotherly concern ... I make my points.

Thank you for all the songs ... I wish to see more. :)

you see things that way? well, i personally took it as joke and relaxation. But, after all listen... freedom is precious thing. Serbs killed for freedom several times. Simply, that`s how it is. Our history is nothing but constant resistance. Our blood mark all borders of Slavija. We are Serbs proud to be Gate Keepers of Slavija. But we didn`t choose that role. It just happen to be that way.

i wish all the best to all Muslims. Let us cooperate with them and let us mutually prosper. Just, Slavic civilization is Slavic world. Our realm, our rules.

don`t thank me. Thank to Mother Slavija

i was born in Yugoslavia and i founded scent. i never regretted all Serbian blood shed for the Yugoslavia, that most beautiful dream. We Serbians defended that dream. Yugoslavia, that little sister of beloved Mother Slavija. Our world

Serbs killed for freedom several times.

Why do you say "killed". You could say ... they participated in battles ... or just avoid that word.

Dont think I am being too critical. But if you are someone who want to make your point to public ... to people of Poland, or all the Slavic countries ... or around the world. Then you must know what and how to say it. It makes a huge different my friend ... and then you become someone all people like to listen to ... and not get angry!

Crow:
But we didn`t choose that role. It just happen to be that way.

It was the past. People have fought and killed each other. Great conquerors from all the nations lead their army against the other. Whether Slavic of even Turk (and turk's did have some great warriors too, to be fare). Not to mention the Mongols!

Remembering the past for history's sake is good. But to remember it for boiling our blood again is not the key to salvation of any progress ... it only burns blood ... and it only creates depression.

Crow:
Let us cooperate with them and let us mutually prosper. Just, Slavic civilization is Slavic world. Our realm, our rules.

This one is better :) ... Slavs have their history and civilization ... we have something to give to the world too ... some very good things ... and our rules must be in accordance to humanity and follow a Global value system which is humane and makes a uniting effect!

Crow:
relax. Just relax and don`t worry that much

Its not a worry my friend ... its a fare remark on what is easily a truth. Why should I worry against something which have its own remarkable beauty! How love encompasses all ... is just beauty at play! Beauty is so much more than just a word!

Crow:
don`t thank me. Thank to Mother Slavija

I thanked an angry son of Mother Slavija ... :D ... she will not mind trust me :) ... but she will mind when he shatters his own tribute to her, with some actions he could change or control so easily ... had he made his heart softer :)

Sometimes they can ...

But anyways ... I've said enough ... and we discussed enough :) ... why go away from this magnificent mood?

Give some folk songs ... and as you often write ... write here about the various traditions ... sub cultures... etc... in its most positive presentation ... :)

No ... I don't think so. Why do you have to think like this?

People might stand in crowed and stare at you with amusement! But is that not something natural? ... Maybe many Americans also stared at the Slavic festivals in USA! It is completely natural and even can be termed as "friendly".

Why do you have to think in a depressing way! Think good and be happy ... come Poland and celebrate... we will also see how it is among you!

tygrys:

Depends, if he had a Polish family back here maybe they would have frowned or they would be curious. Remember that Poles through ages liked to learn new thing and make their "own" style. Poland was once a place of extreme mixture of things :=)

Lodz_The_Boat:
No ... I don't think so. Why do you have to think like this?

Becaouse of how many Poles think about American food culture or general American culture. Many see it as not "real" culture.

It instignates a fight with nationalistic idea of culture and an idealistic or patriotical one

no. i don`t fire from the rifle or pistol at Christmas. i live in urban area, city of Novi Sad and only rarely people here shot from the pistol at Christmas. Sometimes i uses petards, as many people. Petards are usual in cities and guns are more in use in village areas.

Fairing from guns is very rare (and its not legal!), anywhere in urban ares in Serbia. Its rural (villages) custom and as anywhere, rural customs are considered to be more according to old tradition. i suppose, that is the main reason why Serbs in Chicago used to fire from shotguns at Christmas. They are urban people but simple due to nostalgia they turning to some Serbian rural customs.

and, no its not allowed on the Church`s property. Nor fairing from guns, nor petards. Later more on this custom
