For and Against symptum.

you are right - I posted it because I was hoping to have a beer meeting sometimes soon. I am optimistic though, as always

Poles#MoreInUS    Feb 3, 07, 18:35   #6
That's because there are many more Polish people in the US and even Brazil than there are in Canada.

I'm Polish Canadian ... living in Waterloo ... where Polish community is rather big but I find them not visible and not involved ... I'm speaking from experience where I tried to run a Polish Students club with my friends here in both universities in town but as I said we haven't had much success ..

me too, I have some Polish friends here in Toronto, but I think the reson for not having too many Canadians here on this forum could be a fact that it's an English speaking one.

tell me about it, I got home last night after being outside just for 1/2 hour and I had to defrost myself by taking a long, hot shower - helped a bit but boy, I am relly looking forward the spring time here soon.
Not to mention the amount of leyered clothes I have to wear, plus my heavy duty hiking boots, scarf, and a sheep skin hat - I feel like a Russian woman sent to Syberia
On the bright side -it sunny

Could be true .. by the way, are there any "polish-speaking" forums for Polish-Canadians / Polish-immigrants?

hey, I've just found the following on the Concordia University website.

Polish Students’ Association
2010 MacKay Q-02
psamontreal.com
psa@psamontreal.com
The polish students’ association helps in organizing many Polish Events in Montreal like “Polish Paths” a Polish Cultural Festival. They have joined to the biggest charity organization in Poland, the great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, and have helped to organize the Great Finales in Montreal.

However the polish club's site they have a reference to is dead. I suppose the club is up and down periodically as like any other polish club on all universities in Canada .. maybe except for U of Toronto.

Forgetmenots, you could get in touch with Concordia's Student Union and check out if the club is active this academic year and get the Club President's email or something

Hey Kamyk, I think that I am little bit too old for this association but thats great idea so sure I will check them out and let you know

anyway there is plenty of other stuff but everything seem to be dead - maybe there is needed someone who will give it a life

For myself I have found the Polish Canadian Women's Federation - will try to join them and check what those ladies are about you can try as well if you want Kamyk - if I already will be a member you can count on my full support
but seriously maybe this is a good point to start something ....
I dont know why all those places neglected the "online side" of activity - Im sure that there is a plenty of young poles that would be interested ...

Hmm.. This could be a success. You could start with some charity work, field trips, meetings at the bar or whatever. Let me know if you get any ideas so we could join the task forces, eh? It's quite far to Montreal from here but you never know Advertising at the local church could return some feedback too...

Yes, According to the 2001 Canadian Census. Poles by mother tongue numbered 208,375, while Ukrainians numbered 148,085.

Hey all,

Polish Canadian here. My dad is from Poland, my mum a Cape Breton girl of Scottish descent. Although I now live in Halifax, I was born on Cape Breton island in the city of Sydney, where there is a fair-sized and active Polish community (much more so than here in Halifax it seems). We have our own church, St Mary's, I believe the only Polish Catholic church east of Montreal. Most of the Poles from my former area arrived in the early 1900's, lured by promise of employment in the growing steel industry in Sydney.

Well, that is about it in a nutshell.

With regard to weather talk, we have been having an absolutely fantastic winter with great temps and very little snow (fingers crossed). Oh well, a few more months to go, eh?

btw, nice to meet you all!

Ray

BTW Miranda, we are getting alot of cold weather coming down from Canada, what
or who ordered all of this?? lol
miranda    Mar 12, 07, 09:59   #35
Pat,
I have nothing to do with it. Sunday was so beautiful that I spend all day studying at Sturbucks and enjoying the crowd. It was really painful and lots of people experiance SAD here. I also had 2 funerals in my family in one week a month ago, so the weather really matters. Things are getting back to normal

sorry to hear that Miranda, its good that the weather has eased up where you
are, the cold weather isnt here yet, but its coming by wednesday. I know what
you mean about enjoying it, it feels good to just go outside without all the
heavy coats, scarfs, gloves and open your car window and drive. Lately here I feel
spring coming, my mood is better (sorta) and I am getting things done
miranda    Mar 12, 07, 10:08   #37
Pat,
absolutely agree with you. Where are you anyways, I know that USA had some really cold spots too.

Michigan , my brother keeps up on the weather, the beginning of feb was that
below zero weather, he told me that came from the northwest territory. that was
some biting cold weather. I thought I was doomed to get sick. January and feb
are my bad months every year.
miranda    Mar 12, 07, 10:24   #39
well, we had spells of -20 and above withthe windshield, it was not a party time, let me tell you. What I hate the most is people who are in other parts of the world telling me that I am halucinating, yes - if one can from the cold.

ok lets take a poll, what months are your favorite?

you like summer, mine are spring and fall. I like summer, but when it gets to that
cant breathe humidity, I change my mind. spring and 75 -76 degrees is great
you can enjoy the weather, not to hot. love it.
