Traveling to Poland with maiden name in my passport and renewing it there

I am going to Poland in August. My passport is valid till 2011 but it's with my maiden name. to change it here in US it's a pain.. i have to apply in person in Consulate in LA and then pick it up, pay over $100... just a headache. so I guess I can get my new passport with my married name while I'm visiting in Poland. It's only $25 and I already placed my marriage certificate in the Urzad Stanu Cywilnego. I have my PESEL and am still registered at my parents place.. so I know for sure I can apply and get it there.
the only problem I have is will I be able to leave the country with my married name passport and a marriage certificate in hand. do I buy my ticket in my married name? does anyone know how that works?
thanks!

More important is:
will your visa still be valid to the US since its in a different name
will you get the passport back in time when youre in poland

stop complicating your life and just do it in LA

When you reenter the USA you'll have to show your passport as well. Don't take the risk; get a new one in LA.

ah ha. its up to you, but the plane ticket needs to be in the name you have on the passport and you must have your marriage certificate and green card with you on exit and reentry.

OK.. so I know now for a fact that I will not be able to board the plane with ticket in my married name and passport in my maiden name... so I guess I could just get a ticket with my maiden name to match my passport, right? they will not need any other id when I get on the plane here in US. on the way back I could have a ticket in my married name so it would match my new passport I'll get and my green card.. it seems like a lot to go through but it would save me a lot of $$ to do it that way.. if I even can book ticket with different name each way.. ehh.. any thoughts on that??

What is the procedure for a British person to renew their passport in Poland? Is it a simple case of filling out the C1 form, paying the administrative fee and attaching a valid photo? Also, I don't want to go to Warsaw twice. They said sth about needing to be a resident to get it posted but that seems like BS to me. I'm only prepared to go once as the passport itself is overpriced. If they want me to come and collect it, then they can pay IMHO. I'll go there and submit my documents like I did with the CNI for my marriage.

I'd be very grateful were anybody to offer some advice as to the current state of play. Thanking you in advance!!

Ive renewed my passport here (Warsaw) and have one for my daughter born in Poland.

Firstly forget about Warsaw they dont issue British passports any more, as of recently everythings now processed through the British Embassy in Dusseldorf. This actually took me a while to find out (looking at the British Embassy in Poland site it wasnt updated last time i checked).

You post the application via Poctex and they will return via DHL courier, the best way to pay is download a (credit card authorisation form) from the site and check the box DHL courier return, the cost is 25 EUR (i think). You can also use this form to pay for the passport, quite handy really.

My daughters passport was three days late arriving, so i managed to get a tracking number through DHL Wroclaw, the package went through three sorting deps in Germany within 12 hours and was held in Wroclaw for five fcuking days, bearing in mind DHL guarantee packages to be delivered within 24 hours from despatch. They said the address was wrong but when it finally arrived it was perfect, thats Poland for you.

You'll need somebody to verify your photo as usual, i use a British friend who's a company director and lives near me, but you can use a foreigner as long as theyre the usual Doctor, solicitor etc.. They'll have to write "i declare this is a true likeness blah de blah in English of course.

Its all on the site, hang on i'll try and find it.

Ahh theyve finally updated it, looks like a renewal will set you back 161 EUR plus the 25 EUR DHL fee 186 Euro wtf. £77.50 for a renewal in the UK so 94.50 EUR including post, almost double on the continent. These Embassies/Consulates really know how to bring in the cash.

Justyna-ca, sometimes cheap is not cheap, from a logical point of view, the only information that will not correspond will be on your entrance to the USA, although your green card is in your married name, your corresponding documents for application ( passport) is in your maiden name, so the first questions that come to mind are,

1. When you renew your passport in Poland, will the new passport have the same passport number?
2. When you have renewed ( changed name) your passport in Poland are you obliged to inform the American consulate in warsaw, so they can place your current details on the central database, to allow re-entry to the USA.

3. The issue of airline tickets, when exciting the USA, those can always be changed, but you should check that with the airline operator.

If I was in your position, I would do the change of name on my passport in the USA, and inform the relevant authorities of your change of details on the passport, then enjoy the 2 month break in Poland, without any thoughts of what could be. Why take the risk?

That's daylight robbery. I have ways and means of dealing with that, though :)

I'll save on a trip or two to Warsaw but 186 Euro is still taking the mickey :(
