Maciek! Can you be more lazy? How about extending your passport in the consulate/embassy? Will your next post be about not having a tram/subway ticket in PL? :-)

No. It'll be from tax-jail! 'What do you mean I can't deduct that hot tub!" LOL

Zman, you downer, relax.

I assure you this has nothing to do with being ' lazy ' . I am visiting my family and saw this as a great opportunity to renew my passport and take care of things of this nature.

Right. Your family must be great, I believe, and worth visiting. But how come you did not renew your pass beforehand? So lame.

I guess my idealistic view of the world put me in this current situation. How else can I put it? ;)

Well i'll be sure to call the airline in advance to see how this would all pan out.

I can bet they won't sell you a ticket without a VALID passport. You have to get a temporary passport from consulat of Poland.

Much cheaper in Poland and less time consuming and less stressful

What you can do is to apply in a Polish consulate for a temporary passport. I've done it some 8 years ago. It doesn't take long (a week or so), it's not very expensive but it's only valid for about 3 months as far as I remember.

She can book the flight over the Internet ( Orbitz etc..)
The problem will occur at the counter.
The airline will ALWAYS have last say on who they will allow to board.
If anything is out of order, you're rolling the dice.

That's what I was wondering. Would an airline let him leave a Country without one?

I was once refused entry onto a flight from UK to Poland because my passport was due to expire before my return flight. I had to get another ticket to return earlier before they'd let me on.

I have seen this also a couple of times at my local airport over the years. In my opinion the OP is taking a big chance with an expired passport. At the end of the day the personal at the check in will have the final say, and in this day and age with much security, it doesn't look too good.

This isn't worth the stress.
Temporary passport it is.

A good decision, I'd say.
