i wonder how this situation would translate into Polish politics...

in U.S. politics, a government shutdown is said to occur when the government no longer provides "non-essential" services... typically, services that continue despite a shutdown include police, fire fighting, armed forces, utilities, air traffic management and corrections...

a shutdown can occur when a legislative body (including the legislative power of veto by the executive) cannot agree on a budget financing its government programs for a pending fiscal year...in the absence of appropriated funds, the government discontinues providing non-essential services at the beginning of the affected fiscal year... government employees who provide essential services, often referred to as "essential employees", are required to continue working....

congress would force a government shutdown on 8 April, 2011 if their plan to reduce the U.S. federal budget deficit is not resolved... this could leave 800,000 furloughed workers without a job, out of 2 million civilian federal employees....Congressional leaders will meet on April 7, 2011 to agree on budget cuts in an effort to stave off a government shutdown.... but federal agencies are already beginning preparations for potential closures...

I think that if you're working for the government, you should jump on the first plane to Hawaii, hang your hammock between two palmtrees, untie and unbutton yourself, kick your fancy shoes off, light a big fat joint and drink yourself into a stupor. (And not touch anything, not move, and not open your mouth anymore before more silly stuff comes out!)

xD

You know you want to!

I thought some employees would still have to work but they would be given IOU's until the money was released and then they would be paid what they were owed. But that means those workers won't be able to pay their mortages and more home foreclosures will probably follow.

Why do they want to close the National Parks at a time when people are going on Spring Break vacations? Remaining open would have generated income for those places.

The shutdown of the government in the US, and sadly, in many other countries, would mean that CocaCola Inc, Nike, Exxon, BP, Shell, Bank of America and the like would cease screwing most people on this planet. I wouldn't mind such government shutdown.

What's happening in Washington DC righ now is just a temporary lack of agreement on the methods of bankrupting the US, finishing off the remnants of the middle class and handing to the banks what little they still don't own and control.
