I checked out the Polish sites on Polish public preschools someone on another thread posted, but as it's in Polish and we haven't taken the language classes yet, I cannot make much sense of it, even though I tried to use some online translators I found. They don't work well.
A BIG QUESTION: if you are in Poland temporarily or as a guest worker (or your husband is) can your children even go to Polish public school at all? You are not permanent residents, right?
I have the same questions, too, as we may be in the same boat come end of Summer and I'd like to know.
There is supposed to be an international school in Krakow, where we will live, that the diplomat's children go to, that I heard the US state dept sometimes pays for, or helps with costs, for their own employees.
BUT we are not with the state dept, we are not wealthy and have no connections, so we will probably have to pay for most of it ourselves.
Here in the states where we are, we pay property tax based on our house/land size and value and that property tax pays for the public schools and the transportation/buses to and from. We pay no fees for school at all and there are no uniforms, book costs, etc. There is no school tax or millage rate/levy here for the schools, in our part of the US. We send a lunch daily or give them money to buy lunch every day.
How different is that, in general, compared to Polish public school?
Not sure on what all the company will provide and what we will have to pay for, as all the details of our posting haven't been ironed out yet.
In order for my husband, their employee, to negotiate those details with the company, we need to know the answers to the questions we have, first! Then he can go in and barter with them on better terms.
ie: if they pay housing (rent and furnishings) except for utilities and food, then of course paying for school isn't a problem; but if they only provide a vehicle, and help us locate a place (but we have to pay all housing alone) then we're in trouble as we wouldn't be able to pay for an expensive school.
I was told they will not help me get a work visa, so I cannot earn money while there; I will be at home with my son until next year when he goes to school, or till Fall, when he may go to preschool.
The private English and British language schools I see online in places like Germany seem to cost about $10,000 Euros per year and up ---with fees, tuition/books included in that--but sometimes daily transport/busing and of course, uniforms and meals, are extra.
Can someone help me figure this out or point me to a website that has Polish preschool, kindergarden and first grade school info in English?
Thank you!
