Pre war Polish land

Hi,
My grandfather is Polish but came to England after WW2. He owned some land (a farm - well, his family did) but I think it is in Belarus now. Does anyone know any websites etc that I can go to, to research this kind of thing?

Try google. Josef Stalin claimed any land east all the way to the Baltic (szeczin) and the poles forced the germans west after ww2. I doubt you have any rightful claim after that war came to an end.

I'm not trying to claim the land - I would just like to know more about the area - Karlowicze near Drohiczyn, farm number 12...

I don't know that much about it but I did do a bit of research some time ago.

Look at this link, you may find it of some interest. However, you do have to be eligible to become a polish citizen in order to claim. The headline is misleading because it covers Jewish and non Jewish alike (as you read further down). Trying to google stuff like this can take forever. Maybe other forum members have some more information ?

You don't need to apologise if you do want to claim. Why should you ? There are plenty of people who will or have claimed as far as I can see.

Googling an area will give you some good sites for the info you want.

I really don't know that much about it Gregorz. I have carried out a bit of research using the internet and some links I found are quite interesting.

I'm quite happy to pass them on. In my case, my family do have a claim that's why I did some research.

Drohiczyn is in Poland i have family near this small city. but i realy never heard about Karlowicze and maybe try to know to which church your grandparents went.

Yes you can put a claim in for your families property if you were in Kresy area and put into a concentration camp. The dead line is Dec. 2008 so if you decide to you should get moving.

Join Kresy- Siberia @ yahoogroups. com they have the forms that need to be sent in. It will be compensation of a certian %. They also have many links and lists to help you out. Get into the group and the people there will help you with military, pictures, stories of what took place. Good luck and I hope to see you there.

hmmm.. i don't recall anything similar in the area of Drohiczyn. i got folks over there too.

Those bastards, hopefully nothing will come of that. Isn't that the reason they left to Isreal in the first place? Why don't they get their own land over there instead of coming back and demanding that some poor farmers be taken off their farms.

My grandfather Polish/Roman Catholic recieved the land after fighting on the front line Ebi. It was his land. The land was not the hard part it was the price they paid in my grandmother, two aunts and one uncle's lives. The uncle was 3 years old in Siberia.

But on the topic, I lost many of my mothers side in ww2 and lost a grandfather to communists after the war, as he was a member of the armja krajowa.

There are 2 towns with the same name. One is in Poland, the other one is now in Belarus.

hi everyone .. just need to find out abt polish land laws we have found out that we own a plot of land bought by my polish Grannie and Grandad in the 1930s and someone in Poland not a family memeber wants to buy it and says that we have to make up our minds fast before Dec 2008 whether t sell it or keep it....? or the govt will take it,,,,, if it remains unclaimed

I am sorry for all the lives paid for in blood. I am seeing what I can do to find out anything about our family land and castles, and what anyone in the family wishes to do (Castles are expensive to take care of, but I've dreamed of owning one since I was 5, so there you go).
