Predictions for Polish Presidential Candidates 2010

Now since the parliamentary elections in Poland are over, who do you think has the best chances to become the next Polish president? The presidential elections in Poland are in about 3 years (2010). From the history it seems Polish people, in spite of stereotypes, are pretty liberal. I remember there was one independent candidate several years ago that had almost become a Polish president - Stan Tyminski. He went to the final elections with Lech Walesa and only there he lost.

The current Polish president - Lech Kaczynski - will surely start to get re-elected in 2010. Who will be his serious opponents? It is said Donald Tusk's dream is to become the next Polish president and his position as a prime minister is just a temporary solution. For me Tusk seems to be better suited as a president, not a prime minister. Who could be a "black horse" in this group? I think Tomasz Lis, a current pretty popular TV reporter, will have a strong position among the Polish nation - he is smart, handsome, has experience in working abroad, is popular, independent, knows languages. Or maybe Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz, hard-working but maybe too weak former prime-minister. Another one may be Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, but she probably won't have big chances since she's a woman and not very popular. Same to Jolanta Kwasniewska, the wife of the former Polish president - Aleksander Kwasniewski. Some Poles say Waldemar Pawlak could be a good choice, but he's from PSL (party of Polish farmers) and it's hard to believe he could get much approval.

Any other predictions for the 2010 Poland presidential candidates?

It's really far too early to choose an outside bet at the moment.

I also think Pawlak has become a strong and effective politician - in spite of the fact he was mocked at the beginning of his political career (especially as the Polish prime minister).

You must be joking, Pawlak is a disaster, political second league. I admit that these days he made some progress but he is not good material for serious politician. Phlegmatic person and very weak speaker. For average voters Pawlak is just boring and they switch TV channel if he appears.

I would not be so sure whether Kaczynski really want to be re-elected. PiS could select Zbigniew Ziobro who won rivalry in Krakow with his adversary from PO.

The rest of mentioned contenders are either non-serious or without proper political background. I think that Tusk would wish to try again.

Me neither. In this aspect Poland and USA have the same problem.

oh come on, we know that a lot of our politicians have jew origin and they dont hide it ... and it is good. Maybe most of Poles dotn agree with Israel policy (me too), but our Polish jews are ok :) ...
