New Cars are far cheaper in Poland than in Ireland.

Second hand cars are far worse value in Poland than in Ireland, and you also have the problem that a lot of them may be stolen from Germany, especially as you move upmarket e.g BMW.

Due to tax, its very expensive to import cars into Ireland. If you are caught evading tax, you pay even more.
Due to poor secondary irish roads, its dangerous to drive a left hand drive car in the countryside, overtaking is very dangerous. Many Poles have been killed in Ireland due to differences in driving.

Poles have long straight roads and overtake like maniacs. A lot of Irish drive like grannies.
Normal driving like you see in WielkoPolska would get you pulled over by the Police here.

I have been sweating driving with my GF's family in Ireland due to the risks in overtaking.
They have been sweating driving with me here in Ireland due to the narrowness of some of our roads.

One thing we have in common is that our secondary roads are like swiss cheese - full of holes.

But to bring a car over from the US, it would have to be shipped (I would think that would cost a pretty penny).

it costs about $1000-$1300 to ship a car from the US to Poland. So it's not that bad.

In Poland you carry a box of ballons which you hurriedly blow up if you suspect an accident is about to occur.....Unfortunatly , the blowing up of the balloons has been the cause of several accidents here.....

New cars are about the same as the rest or Europe, and rather more expensive than the US. Used cars here vary, but generally for up market cars it would be safer to buy elsewhere. If you import from the rest of Europe, there is no VAT as it is normally paid in the country of purchase. From the US you have to pay 22% VAT. There is also a import duty of 3.1% on cars up to 2000cc and 13.6% for cars over that.

Does anyone here know what the actual procedure/paperwork required is?

I'm also interested in importing a tax free car to Poland and using it there for a year. Does anybody know if I can avoid the local taxes..? I am going to move back to my home country after that year and take the car with me.

depends on what country you are importing the car from and whether you have owned that car for at least 6 months and can prove it.

I'M mecaniker and I have long experiance (35 years) of cars motorbikes, trucks and heavy machinery .I was reading this forum here and I have bin thinking about this market for cars and other vehicles . I can offer cars ,motorbikes, trucks and allmost all vehicles on all age and diffrent prices and quality
from Iceland . Just let me know witch car you want and I do my best to find it.
So the most important is the shipping fee . If interrest I can deal with the shipping Co. I have not sell CARS TO THIS AREA BEFORE SO i MUST examine all conditions carefully .
