Greetings,

After hours and hours of hard work and testing we have finally finished a new and exciting feature - Private Messages - available to all Polish Forums members. Users can now send PM messages in the same way they make posts on the forums. Hopefully it will decrease the number of private chats between members on public threads.

The Private Messages feature works in a similar, intuitive way to most email software plus there's something extra. There are three folders: Inbox, Sent, and Reminders. The Inbox folder contains all received messages; the Sent folder stores sent messages. The extra folder - Reminders - stores messages you may want to send to yourself to remind you of something important. All folders are updated in real time and are accessible from every page.

In addition, we included a reporting tool in case you receive spam or an offensive message. To report a message, just click on the "Report" link and confirm. The message will then be forwarded to forum administrators and the abuser will be subject to suspension.

We hope you'll enjoy this new feature. And we encourage all members to support our project by making a voluntary donation. Please visit the Support PF page for more information.

Admin,

Thank you for this new development, its always good to see things moving forward, however i can only see one negative, know the interaction between groups of people is going to fall away because a lot of the conversation will be done privately, therefore less debate happening which can only be a negative for the sight overall.

I'm not downing your idea or your step forward just putting a different spin on it.

Thnx

Tornado

There's a limit of storage of PM messages so I wouldn't worry. Besides, most private conversations will be related to off-topic discussions so nothing will be missed :).

hmm, bubba has a point admin! Can we block people from sending us PM's? I'm just thinking of certain arguments on here recently. What's to stop people sending other people constant, abusive PM's? Are you moderating them as well?

Yeah I get that but I meant if someone was bombarding another person with trash talk etc.

And its not Mummy and Daddy - Admin is Big Brother. ;-)

It varies depending on our budget, but currently it's 15 inbox, 10 sent, 5 reminders.

so will the oldest be deleted, or will the system prompt you to eliminate messages?

No -- for the same reason people haven't stopped using email just because of an occasional unwanted message they may receive. If someone sends you an unwanted or unpleasant message, there's the "Report" link you may use in such cases.

The oldest will be automatically deleted from the "Sent" folder. You will be promped to delete any message from the "Inbox" folder though.

Hmm well I hope this doesn't cause problems with some of our members, I can already see the "Me want marry Polish girl, me good man" crowd that sometimes plagues the Singles forum abusing the feature.
