Hi there PF, i don't think i've asked for much help in the past but i think this time it would be a good idea for me to ask for your help as my latest assignment is partly based on Poland. Its part of a comparison assignment, the group was split into pairs and each pair were given two countries, one in the EU and one outside of it. Myself and my partner drew, yes you got it 'Poland' and also 'South Africa'

As part of the assignment we have to compare and contrast the diffeences between the two nations in the following elements. SO i would really appreciate if somebody could fill in some of these headings, whether you direct me to a website, share your own knowledge or can give me any relevant information.

I know all Poles are proud of Poland so this is your chance to show me that you know your stuff and help me out at the same time. Thank you very much for any contribution you make. I may not reply or thank you straight away for your contribution but thats because i must go back to uni for an afternoon lecture.

These are the elements i'm looking into:

Population
Workforce (What jobs are most popular in Poland, labour work etc)
Workers Rights
Un-emplyoment levels
Demographics
History/ war and peace
Constitution
Why might people be attracted to work in Poland?
Why might people be attracted to work in the UK from Poland?
Why do people leave Poland?
Religion (The religions that can be found in Poland)
Parental Rights

and for a bit of fun any quirky, funny or interesting facts would be cool, thanks a lot PF hope you can help me

Thnx

T

There's a lot of good general information on here at Poland.pl as well as on the Wiki page for Poland of course, that's Wikipedia and may not be accurate. There's some good stuff here from our friends at the CIA. Here's more. Although, I noticed that the info was at least 6 months outdated. Good luck.

Ebony ive been wondering wat occupation you are in right now...? South africa was colonized by the dutch and controlled completely by whites until apartide with was very recent. They speak Afrikaans which is kind of a bastard mix between dutch and the native languages.

Rugby is very popular there i think its their national sport. They have a dutch protestant church which is very conservative and is the dominate religion. Despite being dramatically conservative they have very liberal laws for some things. Gay marriage is legal which is insane considering the whites r still extremely racist. Ever heard of the word "Kaffir" its like ****** but worse it means subhuman. HA thats wat i know off the top of my head do ur own research. I have a few south african buddies actually. They r racist pieces of **** but awefully good on a rugby field!

I don't know if this helps, but I've got a friend who's visiting South Africa as a humanitarian. He plays soccer for one of the club teams there. He's American and was hired to play soccer and teach kids about AIDS. He has a blog, www.peopleingrasshouses.blogspot.com that's in English. There's no specific "facts" but it might give you a sense of the nation.
