yes we still live against all odds, personally i would say that real Poles are under extinction and rarely found in poland, look at their look, clothes and mostly language that has nothing to do with Polish no thanx

What constitutes a "real" pole though?

A real Pole is the kind that didn't come to America.
Once he comes here, his personality and outlook on life changes. Money becomes his God.
A real Pole is one who values and believes in himself.

So, you're saying that if you come to the US you lose your polishness? I can't agree with that.

You can't do this outside of PL? So, you aren't a real pole?

Mellow out, zgubiony. That's not what I meant. Poles don't lose their Polishness when they come to America, but their priorities change. The main reason they come here is to work. I know a lot of Polish people in America. Their mind is set on making money. Money so they can send it home to their poorer families, so they can buy things they always wanted. I know Polish people who go crazy with buying all the most expensive "toys" on credit.
In Poland, if you don't have the money, you won't buy it. People in Poland respect what they have because they can't always buy a new "thing".
That's what I meant. Money changes people. But America isn't all about money. So many Poles unfortunately don't see the "real" beautiful America.

It's Ok to want more out of life but don't lose who you are!!!
Many people get blinded by greed, hatred and go down the wrong path. By the time they realize what happend, the damage is already done. You hear people winning the lottery and what do they do? They lose their minds! They go spending buying cars, homes, vacations, etc. Next thing they know, they are filing bancrupcy!
So remember, you want to achieve your goals in life, be it money or fame, but don't lose yourself in the process!!!!

it reminds me of tacos. in America there are real tacos and fake tacos. the real tacos use real tortillas but the fake ones use dry shells that are made out of something that looks like a tortilla but really isn't.

I consider myself to be a real Pole. I was born and raised in chicago. Both my parents came from poland in search of a better life. My mom is from Tyczyn and my dad was from Bialy stok. If I spelled that right. I have had a lot of cousins come throught the years to chicago and work hard. And yes they sent all there money to poland to there mom or dad. or brother and sister. They wanted more for there family . Better education or money to start a business. I know as a kid I remember my cousin and aunt and uncle , always talk about how much more the dollar was worth in poland. and how they needed it to but clothes or food or start a business. I remember a car they bought for my mom's sister son to start a taxi cab service in poland. I know they would talk about the homes they were building there for the different Family members. I Know what my cousins did and how hard they worked to have the ability to give each of there family a better life.
I was taught to work hard save money start a family. All that good polish stuff.
I beleive in my self as a pole. I beleive in God and the american dream.
I think that a lot of my cousins did good in poland after they worked hard helped there family and went back to poland.
We still have cousins who come here to the good old USA to do better than there parents.
who came here also worked hard and went back to enjoy the fruit of there labor.
One of my cousins who was here for a few long years has let 2 of his kids come here to have a better life or do something different with there lives. I feel no different then they do. I beleive they beleive in them self's in a foreign country trying to better them selves.
I consider them true poles . And they concider me a pole , even though I was born here.
They are even sometimes amazed at how good I still speak polish. Sometimes when I visit in chicago. My cousins husband will say to me do you understand everything I am saying.
I always tell him If I don't understand something you say in polish . Trust me I'll tell you right away. And i have asked them many times what is it like in poland. Can you get a Harley Davidson in poland . And they will say if you have money in poland you can get pretty much anything you want. Just like in the USA. So I even asked If I went to poland and Bought a car there would it be easy . He said It would. So there are toys for adults in poland just like there are here.
I think a pole is a pole no matter were he is born , as long as he is born to polish parents.
I don't think any pole losses that on purpose. I think and I beleive in my self as a pole .
I don't think a pole working his ass off to make money to take to poland to help his family or his brothers and sisters to get a better education or to have TOYS loses his ability to be a pole. Poles are as motivated by the dollar as any cultute is. I think all cultures have people who lose them selves . But if your a pole . No matter your way of live or out come you will always be a pole. A mexican born here is still a mexican to his family.
There are people in all cultures that will always be what ever there heritage is.
A pole is a pole whether he is rich or poor. Americans like me who are born here are considered poles. I speak polish and I know many poles who speak not one sentence in polish and yet consider them selves poles.
So I not only beleive I am a pole . I'm damm proud of it. Regardless of my finaciall situation. my toys. I beleive it so I am it.
Polish and proud.............................................................Than k you

No offense, but I don't consider you to be a pole if you were born in the US. To be Polish you must be from Poland. You're of Polish descent. That's a big misconception in the US. Everyone says they're this and that....but realistically if you're not from there or were born there you're American. IMHO

If you now reside in North America, doesn't that make you a Totem Pole?

Comfortable and content, with just a hint of smugness thrown in!
