Registering a Polish car in UK..?

Hi guys (witam!),

I don't know whether to write this in Polish or English.. I'll try in English anyway..

I'm going to driving over my new car from Poland to England. I plan to live and stay in England.

I understand that I can drive it legally for 6 month (in any 12 month period), then I have to register it with the DVLA, get MOT, tax and insurance.

I want to register my car as soon as I arrive in England. How much does registering my car with the DVLA cost? Do they classify it as an import, or me simply registering the car in the UK for myself? Once it's registered in the UK and I get my English number plates then it is basically an English car and I can happily use it just like an English car, yes??

Any advice/help will be greatly appreciated!

Ha...i remember driving back home to Poland with my Polish friend Aneta in my right hand drive Britsh Landrover...Aneta had the map opened out completly covering her face , some of the looks from oncoming drivers and pedestrians were very amusing.....

I was orginally from the USa, have lived in Poland. I must know live in Ireland do to my limited Polish language abiality. I can tell you that Poland is better in almost every way.
Food, only food from the immigreants is good. Food from the store is very very exspensive as the market is very limited, to a few major providers. No competition equals hih prices.
The roads here are not much better, The still have a one lane highway between the major cities. I can say that Tri-cities (Gdansk-Gdynia-Sopot), have a much better system. The trains here are no better then Polish trains.
I must say that even with out communist architecture, Irelands homes look like cookie cutter bland prision cells. Poland is far ahead in its modern development/
Irealand only has one thing better, more money.
I wish I was able to live in Poland.

The best description of the process that I found is described here : http://www.wikihow.com/Import-a-Used-Car-from-Germany-to-the-UK. It talks about importing a Porsche but the steps will be the same for any car.

You should also check with HMRC about VAT as it might depend on how 'new' your car is...

Once it's registered, with UK plates, you will be treated like any other British car.
Unlike a RHD car in Poland :(
