Regular UK visitor to Krakow - How to meet people and make friends?

Hello to anyone reading this!

I am a young lady who travels to Krakow regularly with work. I work for a tour operator company who do weekend breaks to Krakow.

I have only started doing this job this summer. But I absolutely love spending time in Krakow (I really would live there if I could).

I don't speak any Polish (unfortunately) but I am slowly trying to learn little by little.

But I do find that travelling alone, it's hard to meet people who could show me much more of Krakow and basically meet people that I hang out with in my free time in Krakow.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I would try visiting pubs in the main square area - there are many people speaking good English there.

Also, ask the female desk clerks or dining room waitresses at a good/high-end hotel; they all speak very clear English and they also tend to be young and single. They will be able to help you. And this is much safer than randomly walking up to some stranger/person on the street, or hanging around a tram or train station to ask these things.

The ladies in the dining room at Novotel Centrum, in the city, were very helpful to us and our son when we stayed there.

Hmmm, you live to far away, dont get her hopes up and btw Mr G Dog, English women expect a man to pay when they go out...so its your income you should be worried about :)

That and him being a jerk.

Yes they are lovely.

Our tour groups stay here regularly and they are always frindly and quite chatty.
I should perhaps make more efforts to speak to them really, shouldn't I?

I think it's hard to talk to people and then try and get them to "be your friend" - it reminds me of being at play school... But it does seem like the only way to get out there.

I have to say, that i am rather worried already! LOL

if you are a tour operator.. isnt that your job to know where to go?

Yes I do, but my passengers ar usually 60+ and I am about half that age, so their idea of a night out is not exactly mine. ;-)

I am mainly trying to get to know the less touristy places to go and eat/drink/meet people etc...

I take out 50 passengers of about 50-60+ but I am not with them 24/7 and have free evenings to go out by myself. But I would like to make the most of my free time and nights out. Either try different places or getting to know people.

I am leaving for Krakow on 18 Sep and will be in Poland until the end of the month.

I will be there on holiday, bit daunting on my own so would be good to catch a drink maybe. Perhaps you are away home again by the time I arrive.

Infortunately I am back in not so sunny England, back at work and missing Krakow already.

I hope you have a great time over there?

I will be goingback there on the 13th Oct and I really cannot wait. I am unsure about what the weather will be like though. All year I have have had great weather each time I have been out, but I have been told how cold it gets in the winter months.
