It's a tricky one. In my experience most Polish people don't tend to socialize in pubs like people do in the UK, they usually go round to each other's homes. People in pubs in Krakow tend to be either very young, heavy drinkers, or tourists (it's a winning combination!).

I live in Krakow. Next time you're coming over me and my girlfriend could maybe show you a couple of places in Kazimierz.

So,

I am about to go back out to Krakow on Sat. And, as always, I am very excited.

i know it sounds trivial, but can anyone tell me what the weather is like?
I think either my suitcase has shrunk or I have too many clothes!

as a fellow brit who's only been in krakow for just over a month, the weather ain't too terrible...but i'm assured the bad weather's on it's way! it's been a bit nippy the past couple of days and is apparently set to get worse. i don't find it too bad during the day but early mornings and evenings man, it's bitter! so i recommend packing as much into your little suitcase as possible!

hey guys,

there a quiz night that runs every tuesday, 9.30pm. its at the irish arms, the pub isnt the greatest but its good for meeting ex-pats. i like nic nowego as its a trendy mordern place owned by an irish guy. theres a good mix of people there too.

ahhh i was suppose to be there last tuesday but my lack of general knowledge resulted my non-attendance! my friends said the place was rammed with brits and aussies and was quite bizzare! sounds like quite the experience though so will be paying 'ireland in krakow' a visit in the very near future!

well if an american asked you to explain cricket to her, then yes, that would be you, and that would be my friend! all the explaining in the world wouldn't make an american catch on to that one! and the students again were probably friends of mine from a polish course i was on, they'd all just arrived for erazmus etc....we're clearly all fluent in polish now so would expect the quiz to be solely in polish HAHA

well if the questions were 'what is your name?' and 'can you count to 10 really slowly, pronouncing each number really badly?' then given enough thinking time, i think i could pull an answer out of the bag...anything more complex than that would probably leave me somewhat dazed....

Does anyone fancy a coffee/beer some time in a few weeks time. I am in Poland from 29th Nov until 4th December. I plan to be in Krakow on 30 Nov-2nd Dec with trips to Auschwitz and the football at Cranica. On the other days I aim to be in Wroclaw and Poznan although I will play it by ear.

Feel free to PM for further info (bank balance and vital statistics excepted!)

I found the Irish embassy when I was in Krakow... full of tourists, but they were friendly. Otherwise I was a bit crap at meeting Polish people, which is a shame. I want to go back again for Easter next year (the next time I will have any holidays), but can't find anyone willing to go with me..

Don't you worry, you'd be my last choice. Old boring bigots are not my preferred travelling companions by a long shot.

Hey was doing a little research and saw your thread. I am currently living and working in Prague but am considering new options for next year. I visited Krakow in July briefly and it seemed that people laugh more in Poland and to be a bit more positive and seem to know how to have more fun. Well, at least a couple of Polish women I've met seemed that way!

Does anyone know if there's any websites/forums, etc where one could get more info on the general social climate of the city. Would like to verify my assumptions before pressing my employer to let me work remotely from Krakow.

P---
