I am a black American girl living in England, and my boyfriend is Polish. We have been together 3 months tomorrow :) He is not the first Polish guy I have dated, and I have both male and female Polish friends. Generally I dont like to stereotype, but as a culture I have found them to be extremely friendly, warm, unique and refreshing people, all with very strong personalities. My boyfriends friends are curious about me more than anything, and some of my English friends dont understand the connection/ attraction. But for my boyfriend and I it is very strong. Obviously there are cultural differences but as in most relationships the differences come because he is a man, and I am a woman. We have a humour that is our own, and I dont think anyone would "get it" :) Just wanted to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks :)

I love black women, particularly Jamaicans, but I'd never in my life date, let alone marry, one. :)

You're Black, he's White, you're American, he's Polish, you're female, he's male......Nothing special......Nothing much more to add really.

I wish you both health and happiness.

What's new about black women and white men?

People date who they fancy. The colour is irrelevant! It's common people mixing. It's been happening way before I was born and continues to do so.

You love them but would never date one? Is this due to not finding them attractive or your type? Or because you are scared of them? Curious that's all.

Preference is an individual thing. We all have one of some sort.

I work with many jamaican women in my office - they always make me laugh... really funny and hyper ladies. I enjoy their presence, and of course there are some really pretty ones.

But it's definately based on preference. I am completely against interracial marriages.

I strictly believe in sticking together with people of your own ethnicity, and preserving culture and language.

I grew up my whole life with more asian friends than white, yet I'm still looking forward to having my kids via a Polish (or Russian) woman.

SŁAWA! :)

What the hell do Russia and Poland have anything to do with each other? They have a different culture and different language yet you talk about preserving language/culture? lol...

Same with me actually. I don't like most black woman though, but some of them I find insanely attractive and mesmerizing (like an actress Aïssa Maïga for example). I too however would never marry one because I couldn't bear having a mixed child. The thought that I would sever my family line from the European roots is something that I cannot even contemplate without having shivers going up and down my spine.

So what do the Russians and Polish have in common? Genetically, they're quite different, and in terms of culture and language - very much different. There's nothing in common with Poles and Russians - even the faces are dramatically different.

As for Russians - they're genetically an utter melting pot. I have a friend who has a very, very, very Asian looking grandmother - she's Russian, however. People don't look like that in Poland.

As for Russian culture - well - I ask you to tell me 5 similiarities between Ossetian and Polish culture.

my mother was born in east belarus, her parents in pre-war poland (now belarus), and her grandparents in a village not to far from st petersburg. Her family's history spans over 400 years in that village alone.. she looks very much polish to me... but anyway... she was baptised russian-orthodox (as I was) and she says herself how similar polish culture is to russian.. languages too. She speaks to me mostly in russian, and my dad speaks in polish, so maybe it's just me, but they are very very similar. :)

Common perception of Russians. Poles will tell you otherwise.

I live here, you don't - end of story.

(by the way - you might want to consider that suggesting to Poles that they have *anything* in common with Russians tends to be seen as very offensive, even by liberal Poles. About the only ones who see similarities are die-hard Communists)

doesn't matter the least bit, I grew up with very traditional parents & extended family. :) I literally have thousands of family members back home, and in surrounding countries, many cousins with whom I keep contact regularly. Those in poland also agree with me. :D

They must all be rather strange individuals if they live in Poland and claim that Poland is similar culturally to Russia, of all places! Either that, or Russians too.

That certainly explains a lot.

Bear in mind that most people in Poland want absolutely nothing to do with Russia and do not see any similarities at all - they'll also happily point out that West Slavs have little in common with those from the East.

Shows how much you know lol. Actually the closest nationalities genetically to Polish are Russian and Czech. Russian being closer. http://www.khazaria.com/genetics/poles.html

utterly fascinating, I will never watch Highlander in the same way again.
I had heard about the kurgens before but never thought that I would be living amongst their descendents

It shows that Poles and Serbs and Croats share the same genetic links. Crow will be pleased.

No no no. Poland's culture was heavily influenced by the Roman Catholic Church which is one of the reasons why the Polish language uses the Latin alphabet. Russia was influenced by the Eastern Orthodox branch of Christianity and then later on by a secular government.

I speak Polish and I cannot understand Russian. I might be able to pick up a few words here and there but the two languages are definitely not mutually intelligible.

Maybe your reading comprehension should be improved a little bit. Just because Poles and Russians share the R1a haplogroup, it doesn't mean they're not genetically different. Others things came to the mix. Your link even states 30% of Poles have R1b indicating that a lot Poles probably mixed with Germanic people. Although, that site does have some questionable claims on it. For example, I don't think the Serbs have that high of an R1a frequency as it claims.

Maybe yours should improve, instead of you just reading what you find favorable. Of course Poles mixed with their neighbors as did Russians, often with nationalities the other didn't, but that's irrelevant. The thing is the unmixed part be it 30 or 50% of the same DNA is of a similar level and origin.

Yes it is relevant because that makes them genetically different. Period. I never denied that there aren't any common origins.

Let me give you an example. Poles and Russians roughly have 50% of the common R1a "Slavic" DNA. Poles are also mixed with Germans, Ukrainians, Lithuanians, Belorussians, Czechs, Jews, Armenians. While Russians with Ukrainians, Latvians, Tatars, Georgians, Mongols etc. the other Slavic nations are much MORE mixed with even more nationalities only having let's say 34.2% R1a (Czechs) or 15% (Bulgarians)... Don't you think Poles and Russians will therefore have much similar blood and outlook as compared to even some of the other Slavic nations?

Maybe so, but that's only comparatively-speaking. I'm just saying that Poles and Russians are still genetically different which is what that other guy originally said. Also, Poles and Russians do not have the same culture/language so what that Shay guy said about preservation made no sense.

Similar but different. But every nationality more or less different.
