Hi everyone
There's a beautiful Polish girl where I work and I'd like to take her out but there's a couple of things I'm not sure about.

First off, I don't know if she's already married, (she doesn't wear a wedding ring). Is this normal in Poland? Or would she always wear a ring if she was married. As far as I'm concerned married women are off limits but unmarried are fair game. She may well have a boyfriend already but if they aren't married then is it acceptable for me to ask her out?

Second, I don't speak any Polish and she only speaks a little English so how would I ask her? I would like to be able to ask "could I take you out sometime?"

Third, I'm not very good at chatting to her as I get very nervous, she gives me the full butterflies in the stomach kind of nerves. So any help or hints would be welcome.

Thanks.

It doesn't mean a thing.. If you are determined enough, you can have a woman wearing wedding-ring as well..

If you want to impress Polish lady, don't use Polish language in her presence, you'd better play a role of rich foreigner... But if you really must do it, choose one of these options:

1) Chcesz się bzykać? (khtzesh s-ye bsikatz?)
2) Twoje krągłe kształty doprowadzają mnie do ekstazy (I am too lazy to transliterate it)
3) Ile bierzesz za szybki numerek? (eele b-ye-zesh sa sheebkee noo-merek)

these are very good and to tell her that you want to take her out it would be:

zrob mi loda (zroob me lodah)

A couple of mumbled Polish phrases will make her heart melt. Even if they are mostly nonsensical.

Poles wear their wedding rings on their RIGHT hands. Not their left.

Make eye contact; have some confidence; smile and listen to her. Write her a poem or something.

Thanks purplewolf,
I'm not sure I understand you. If she's married then I'm not interested. I don't want to interfere in someone elses marriage. But if she's not married then I would like to take her out.
I don't want to play the role of a rich foreigner or anyone else for that matter. I'm looking for a fairly serious relationship so I'd rather not decieve her. Also I would rather that she likes me because she likes me, not because I'm rich.
Thanks for the expressions but you'll have to tell me what they mean, or at least how I could find out.
Cheers.

It's a local Polish slang understandable only for Poles... It's like a secret code.. If you use it, I can guarantee you get whatcha want or, in worst scenario, you get whatcha do not want... I think it's worth to risk anyway, 50/50 ratio is quite reasonable...

hector,
Here is the translation of purprlewolf suggestions.
1. Do you want to have sex?
2. Your curves bring me to ecstasy.
3. Let's do a quickie.

My best advice is not to follow purplewolf's advice.

Just do what you do in your country. Also, get yourself a Polish-English dictionary and learn some words.

Myślę o tobie. (I think about you.)
Podobasz mi się. (I like you.)
Co robisz wieczorem? (What are you doing this evening?)
Tu niedaleko jest fajna knajnka. Idziemy? (There's a nice pub not far from here. Wanna come with me?)

:)

purplewolf, I'm hoping those lines will come in handy, but I'll save them till I get her on her own. Could have been funny though, especially since all the Poles sit together in the canteen at work!

well, it would be good if you found out if she is available first. Maybe there is somebody at work who knows. Being smart about is is my advice, but you don't seem to need it anyways, since you come across as a person who has things together. Find out if she is planning to stay in the country for longer or she is just there for employment and is planning to go back.

PS. I just got a wedding invitation from an Irish man who used to be a member of this forum and he is getting married to a Polish woman soon. All I can say that there was a time that he might have been in your position and we talked about it.

Hector, you really make me laugh, what difference does it make if ur gonna ask her out in English or Polish?

If she is stupid enough to misunderstand a simple question about going out in English what would you do after on a date, are u gonna hire an interpreter? lol

Sound advice, thanks. Her cousin works there so I could ask her, mind you, I might aswell just ask her herself! I think she's planning to stay for a while she's worked there for 3 years at least.

well, the sooner the better, so you can plan your next step:). You don't want to obsess about somebody who might not be available.
Good luck:)

Jesteś z Polski? Skąd jesteś? Byłam or byłem, KP? KP is just having a laugh here. There are many mistakes in his writing.

Best just try and find things out discreetly.

that's just freaking rude.. i hope you experience that sometime then since you even suggest such a disrespectful thing.

Sorry to sound pessimistic, but if you do manage to ask her out ... what .... oh, I guess you can always explode with the pressure of how to communicate. I mean, if she makes you nervous AND you have no common language ... you may as well learn the Polish for "turn up naked, bring beer".
