Is she genuine? - I would like some advice please re a Polish girl.

Hi everyone, it's good to know there is a site dedicated LDR's ;-) I have just started chatting with this polish girl who's 29 and she seems genuine but I have been misled before with Russian and American girls starting a relationship with me, to find out within a few days or so they are Nigerian scammers....

And I don't want that to go through that and waste my time again as I feel she is the one for me, but I can't help being wary (just in case) I've done some quick background checks and nothing flags up.

Is there anything I can do to see if she is genuine without her thinking i'm checking up on her please?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

is she from Poland, born and brought up here?
if so, ask her what her favourite cartoons were when she was a kid or sth along these lines... and then come back here and check up on it :)

She was born in England and moved to Poland when she was 7, polish mother & Scottish Father. thank you for the tip I will ask her and come back with a reply.

Her favourate food is Potato and tomato soup if that is any use?

May be,we eat a lot of potatoes:D But other nations also so better ask her for cartoons.

I still think the "cartoon test" is pretty good idea but you can also ask her for her favorite old films.

It's so easy for a scammer to google this.

It's very difficult to differentiate a professional scammer from a genuine person. That's why scammers make money, because they're skilled.

But their is one good rule; if it's too good to be true - then it's usually not true.

And you can ask her to write something in Polish. If the scammer uses online translations it will not look so good grammatically.

You are right but cartoons have other problem-she can tell "The Smurfs"and it wouldn't say anything.The only really reliable test is...to check her ID or passport.But I'm quite sure that option is unavailable.

Why don't you use video camera while chatting with her - it's nothing unusual. Many people don't talk to strangers if they don't like to use or don't have video-camera installed on their computer.
Chatting without camera is a thing of past.

Maybe for some it's normal but for me it sounds strange that a 29yrs old woman says her favorite food is.... potatoe?? Sounds so childish.
You should be careful with anyone these days - check her out by requesting video chat.

Ask her to write something in Polish , we'll tell you if she's Polish or not.

The other thing is her mum went back to Poland in 1987 or 1988, these were crazy years in Poland. Until the year 1990 Polish people were abe to easily get residence visa in any developed country as a political immigrants or on humanitarian grounds.
Why her mum would go to Poland which was still under the communist regime and to add together with a young daughter plus a husband from Scotland?? That's weird.

Can be true, or can be an evil method of a scammer. Scammers have no moral at all, and they play on people's feelings.

Surely it wouldnt be a problem to SEE her via web cam even if she dose not talk.... if she declines then i would be verryyy worryed.

How did you meet her out of intrest?

I totally agree, the 1st sign of a scammer i've found is usually have lost both parents in a tragic accident, or they are in need of an operation and need money...

I don't the full story but from what I can gather her parents seperated when she was 7 and her mum took her back home, her dad died when she was 20...

Its the easist programme to download...if she doesnt have it she can download it...

Also you say she lived in the UK until she was 7, get her surname and search on the electoral roll to see if her family actually existed here 22 years ago :D She must have given you some info where she lived...If not ask..

If it is a scammer, some of your questions will be ignored. Try to ask them again if you are not getting any answer 70 percent she is a scammer.

And generally scamming done in semi automatic way. Send same e-mail twice if you are getting 2 different answer most probably it is a scam. If love words started in second e-mail it is scam again.

Another method could be googling e-mail texts and file names she sent to you(Scammers use exactly same text for many people). There are forums against scamming, if it is not something so new some other people may share it on those websites.

If she asks for any financial help before meeting, it is definitely scam.

If one or two of the above fits your case it means it is scam, it is not hard to understand, you can easily understand it in 2 e-mails.

I asked what her name was as she says she is called Kate but her email didn't match and this is what she told me

my polish name is krecha which means kate or karolina in english

Is this true please

It comes from "kreska" and means more or less "a thick line". It's not a first name, could be a last name or a nickname.
A similar word, Krycha, is sometimes used as a shortened form of Krystyna, but that's Christine in English.
Or Kacha - actually from Katarzyna.

Krysia = Krystyna

Perhaps mention you maybe planning a trip to Warsaw and see what the reaction is.

Also ask about her time in the UK where she lived etc, what she remembers, school that sort of thing.

Is it usual to change a surname?

A true Pole would use these for sure. Someone pretending to be a Pole Might use Krecha.
