Making My Polish Girlfriend Feel Like She Is At Home At Christmas

I am new to this forum. I can't read polish but I can speak a little. I'm going out with a Polish girl for the last 6 months now and we are very close. She isn't going home for Christmas tho and I think she will miss her family a lot so I would to make her feel like she is at home as much as possible! So any suggestions I would really love???

Also I haven't a clue what present to get her? Polish women are definitely different the Irish, and for the better! I know she loves flowers etc but she told me she doesn't want perfume or cosmetics. Also she wants a budget of 100 euro? So any help would be great.

Is there a Polish shop or a Polish restaurant near you? Trying to do a traditional Polish Christmas Eve meal would be a nice touch.

Crank up the AC and burn a bit of brown coal to get the sensory part right :)

Get a live carp and dump it into your bath tub a week before Christmas, that'll be Christmas dinner.

Go down to your neighborhood polski sklep and buy a package of oplatki (google it for instructions on usage).

Make some kompot.

...pick a tradition, sure she'll enjoy it. Regarding gifts, there are no special "Polish girl" gifts.

ps, i'm breaking my promise to myself to not post in this section...

Thanks for the help Convex and Harry. Problem is I think she will be working on Christmas Eve and will be spending the night with other Polish friends staying in Ireland. Is there any traditions not food related that I could do?

Buying a gift is very hard I think. She seems to not want anything, and always seems to buy practical gifts for friends. Yes we both agreed the budget of 100 euro. Its not too much compared to some of my other girlfriends before. Thanks for the help again

Read through the traditions on the link. Do a night before Christmas or something and do like a mini Christmas eve.

Buy her an electric blanket. They break every year so you always have something to get for next Christmas.

Could you not do something crazy like book a suprise flight to Poland for new year...?

might cost more than 100 euro though...for two...

Your suggestions are great convex, you must be very good with women!! The flights is another good idea, but it is impossible with the work she does unfortunately. Great suggestions tho :)

I wouldn't know even if the service is in English, so I'll pay attention and make sure my eyes
Don't wander :) thanks again for the suggestion.

Anything with a polish touch is nice. I notice that she likes that I'm picking up on the language a bit so the polish mass service is a great idea.

Lard and vodka bimber? Think I'll stick to just the vodka :)

Ya I've learned all the basic's really in polish so I'm covered on that front,unless there is something you can think of that I could say that would really impress her?

I probably could get cards sent over but I'm sure I saw some polish Christmas cards in a polish shop when I was with her.

No seriously Pork, brush up on some Polish Xmas carols, or at least buy a CD of them. Searching 'kolędy' is also an idea. Wesołych Świąt Bożego Narodzenia 2010 życzy bimber94.

Ya I'm still stuck on that one...people had lots of gestures to make her feel like she is at home which was great. But women are always hard to buy for...especially when they say they have everything they need already. I know she doesn't really mean this though :)

The most important thing about wigilia ( Polish Christmas) other than the celebration itself, is to share a oplatek ( a blessed waffer) Poles read a piece from the bible and break the waffer and wish one and other happiness/luck for the coming year. If you buy one from the Polish/Catholic church and share it with her after mass on wigilia, you will be a hero.

There is only one church in my area offering Polish mass and it's only one service a week, I doubt they'd have it would they? Would it be available now to buy? Would it be in a Polish shop?

men are helpless... no logic, no ideas, no willingness to make her smile... just picking the simple short route to get it over with....


make her this frekin' Wigilia, ok?! go to the Polish store, buy pierogi, bigos, karp, cook it all (you know how to use the internet, right? ok, so you find the cooking instruction there!!!), share an oplatek with her and freaking be creative next time... if you make it to the next time...

I'll definitely track one down if it means that much. Its the little touches I suppose that make Christmas because I know she is missing her family at this time of year.
