BuffaloGuy 4 Jan 2007 #119Marie was a giant, even bigger than The 50 Foot Woman (see IMDb.com: Attack of the 50 Foot Woman [1958])). She shared the 1903 Physics prize with her main squeeze, Pierre Cure. The "juice" from that squeeze, Irene Joliot-Cure, won her own Nobel (in chemistry) in 1935, along with HER main man, Frederic Joliet. This is the only instance, so far, of Nobels being awarded to Mom, Dad and Offspring for separate achievements (Marie: Physics in 1903, Chem in 1911; Pierre: Chem in 1903; Irene: Chem in 1935).BTW, although Marie is the only Laureate with prizes in two separate scientific disciplines, Linus Pauling is the only Laureate with Nobels in completely separate fields: Chem in 1954 and Peace in 1962. OBTW, both of Pauling's prizes were unshared, another way in which he is unique (2 Nobels + unshared = sui generis).
