Online matrimonial - a good way to find a true Polish man/woman on the net?

I was recently asked by a widowed 50-some PolAm whether it's wise to try to find true Polish or Polonian love on the net. There are dating and matrimoniał sites galore, but he wondered whether he should seriously consider that option. A common view is that many of the offers are come-ons and ruses out to fleece unsuspecting males seeking companionship. Anyone on PF had any experience in that area?

I met a Russian lady on a dating site , one of the better ones that weeds out all the scammers...we got on great . met in person in Kiev...we are getting married in may next year in Moscow...

Interesting topic.

No offense to anyone who's had luck with online dating and connecting but, all of the people I know who met online and started dating or got married, ended up in an unfortunate breakup or divorce. Some were after money, some after visa, some after citizenship and some after anchoring babies. Since the net is populating with con artists, only 1 out of 100 relationships work out (in other words, 99 out of 100 people suffer the consequences).

Be cautious and be 100% sure before letting someone gain confidence in you.

I'm sure there is plenty of scam on line and what you described, but even high school sweethearts are getting divorced. Right? Just recently, I read that 4 out of 10 couples meet on-line and get married. I personally know three couples who met this way and are happily married. So, it is a meeting place just like any other, got to be cautious anywhere. I met my ex at a bar. Is he my ex because we met at a bar? Nope.

Modern times need a modern way of thinking. The world is growing smaller therefore everyone should be open to new ways of finding happiness ;)

blushing Gee, thanks. Ten years ago, a couple would not admit to their friends and family at first if they met on-line. Not today, they announce it without a blink. Really, it is just another place. I know, I will look into it some day when I'm ready. A grocery store, a hardware store, the library, workplace, school, the friend of a friend blind date...all good, but not as productive as on-line :)

I was specifically commenting on the "online" part of the topic. I know that breakups happen all over the world, long-term or short, on or offline. I was sharing experiences from people that I know (also from a little research that I conducted) and advising people to be careful when meeting people online (especially from foreign countries) and not to stay away from the net altogether (just a safety precaution). You could very well get lucky and end up in a great relationship (keeping safety in mind) through an online source... who knows?

"Got to be cautious anywhere", and I agree with you 100%, but this topic was about "net-meeting" and the reaction of my response was to just that. Sorry if there was any misunderstanding and thanks for your response. Cheers! :)

On line you can reach a much wider audience... I found my perfect one was a Moscow school teacher , not somebody i would have met in my local supermarket in Poland i think...

As long as you are both truthfull , there should be no disasters when you meet...

My Russian lady was just as i expected her to be when i finally met her , well no actually she was much nicer...

You are right about the 'foreign country' matches. If it happened that I met a polish man who would fall in love in me, and then later, I learned that he was here illegally, it would sure put me on guard. Does he really love me or is it about papers? I understand what you wanted to say Exaggerated, but it sounded a little bit like bashing the meeting on-line. Or, maybe I misunderstood your intentions, and for that I'm sorry.

When i put my profile on a dating site i got 189 replies from mostly stunning young ladies of very young age who fell instantly in love with my profile...yeah right..?

the only one i replied to was a lady much closer to my age , who did not care i had no money , had no interest in living in the UK , although she would like to visit , and did not fall instantly in love with me... Over time , we did get very close , and when we did eventually meet face to face we realised it was the real thing , and we wanted to be together no matter how difficult it was....

the first plan was for her to move to Poland , but as i realised she has a daughter and many friends in Moscow , i made the decision to move to her country....

I hope to be there next march , we marry in may , and sometime in between all that we buy a house together... i have no doubt its going to work just fine....

I am positive....positive its going to be a real pain in the ass to get out of Poland without losing all my money and property.... But i am working on it... I don,t need to put a for sale notice on the farm , a friend of mine wants it , but its so complicated to do the paperwork required....

When my last dog had to be euthanized, she was cremated and I got a this nice engraved teak box with the ashes, all for $250. Internet marriage..though.. might work for some. As long as you never have to meet, thrill might last much longer ;)

Thankfully my Russian lady and i were very open and honest with each other so there were no shocks or disapointments when we eventually got to meet....

Wildrover, that is actually not a bad idea. If you created a virtual online world for people before they got married, were they could co-exist in the vitual sense and make the day to day decisions about life, maybe there would be less divorce out there.
