Hi,

I am arranging a trip for my rugby Club to Gdansk.

Can someone help me with some contact details with clubs in that area? I have tried looking at the web sites, and as I speak no Polish, am having problems working out who to contact ,or if the clubs are local to Gdansk.

thanks very much
Richard.

Tricity was always stronghold of Polish rugby. Currently the best team in Poland is Arka Gdynia, (contact) they have also second team in second division. Lechia Gdańsk (contact) is actually fourth while Ogniwo Sopot seventh (contact). University team AZS AWF Gdańsk played as well but not anymore. (contact)

when are you planning on touring as March-June is Polish rugby season and chances are they will be unavailable for fixtures. What level in the UK are you and I will tell you which one is best suited to your club.

we have a team at level 7 and one at level 9.

It will be a mix of players from both teams and a couple of veteran players!

Thanks.

If you after a social game of rugby I would avoid Lechia and Arka, as these are quite serious teams. Sopot may be a better bet or better again would be Czarni Pruszcz Gdański who are division II.

If you get stuck for a fixture in Gdansk then suggest you try Warsaw frogs as they are non league and play mainly touring teams

Would you suggest staying in Gdansk or Sopot?

Depends when you are going, in Summer Sopot, in winter Gdansk, but both are good

There are sevral teams in the Gdansk area, all teams are amatuer, although the best couple do pay small amounts to some of their players. Above in an earlier post is a list of clubs, you can get their details from the pzrugby site (Polish rugby union).

If you are talking about playing, then not speaking Polish is not a major obstacle, there are many Georgians playing. However being a non Polish national can make life difficult as there are limits on how many can play in any one team. If you are EU then this should not matter, but unfortunately the PZR often does follow EU guidelines on this. There is only one team exempt from this rule and they are based in Warsaw, Frogs & co.
