Salary expectations in Poland

Hello folks,

I m Greek and I had a job offer from a big international company based in Krakow.

At first I was very excited since i have only heart good things about Poland in general and for Krakow in particular. However, I had no clue that the salaries are so low in Poland and when they asked me what my salary expectations are, i just answered that i trust what an inernational company has to offer to a person who is a BSc graduate and also an MSc graduate. It was clear from the beginning that I will not be considered an expat - meaning that i will not get paid with Greek standards but as a Polish employee.

As i m quite a bit worried of what should i expect, can you please tell me how much Poles usually get paid when working for international companies? Do you think i got any chance of getting no less than 1,000 euros taking always into account my qualifications and the fact that the company is really big?

I would think that if you received a job offer then the offer should include the conditions of employment. Renumeration is sure to be included.

Don't know...Poles make an average 900 € maybe more, don't really know...
But prices in Poland are not that high, so you can enjoy a good way of life anyway ^^ At least, i hope so... ;P LoL

Sorry norgean - I'm not an expert on salaries in Poland, but from what I heard, Polish people are really paid badly. I might be wrong, but I think Polish doctors' salaries averaged in the beginning of the year around 1 200 PLN. There are some threads regarding salaries elsewhere on the forum as well. It might be different in international companies, but I'm not sure.
I am sure that someone will correct me, and inform you some more.

thanks for your reply.

i was actually made aware that i am what they are actually looking for, and that they would contact me later on to arrange the contract details; so they did not tell me anything about renumeration. all it was said is that the company offers very competitive salaries. and this is what i m actually looking for: to find out what competitive salary means in Poland given the fact that the salaries there are rather low compared to other EU countries.

as to your question

if you have some expirience you will earn 1000 Euro ... or you will be waiter in popular restaurant or lauborer on construction ...

if you dont have any expireience it will be hard to get 1000Euro for work in office

;) no problem. I do know though that people live here and are happy. They still care about each other, and somehow, Polish people also manage - with their small salaries - to do great things! I've always been fascinated when I think how they do it. One of the staff members at my husband's office, eg. has tens of thousands of rands worth of camera equipment to pursue his photography interest. I know that he took some time off work a while ago, to redo the floors of their flat to save money for a camra lens :) He has a wife and three daughters to look after.

Depends on :

- where you live (big city or small village)

Warsaw:

teacher (5 years experience, public school) about 1500 zł netto
teacher (15 years experience, private school: from 3000 zł netto)
dentist (private clinik - from 5000 zł netto to...15 000 zł netto...)
logistics manager - 10 000 zł netto
underwriter (for example Amplico, NationaleN, ...5 - 10 years experience) about 3500
netto zł)
waiter (good restaurant + tips) about 4 000 zł netto
supermarket (from 1500 zł brutto )

Poland's society still don't appreciate teachers then ..

Then they don't deserve to be paid as a professional. If they can't look after themselves, then how the hell they gonna look after the interests of the company they work for...........jeeees!

Salaries in Poland vary very much. It depends on company, a kind of job... Doctors always complain, they often talk crap about their salaries, except real begginers they make quite good money...

Very important thing is on which level you are going to work... Unskiled workers or people doing lowest kind of "office jobs" make sh*it here. 5-6 times less than people doing the same jobs in western Europe but in case of well qualified workers or lower rank management the difference is "only" like 3-4 times, medium rank management - If you compare cost of living (which is not really low in Poland anymore but still seriously lower than let's say in UK) then It's not much less than in western Europe and in case of high rank management It's often the same money. Generally there are very big differences in case of salaries between different "classes", so everything depends on which "level" you are going to work.

I don't know if this helps, but a friend of mine works for an international contractor as head of business development for the region and earns about 2200 euro/month. He's educated to MSc level with about 10 years experience in the industry.

I also just met someone from an international company who was in Warsaw to look for a finance manager for the Polish branch. He was surprised to find that he'd have to pay at least 2000 euro/month to get someone with the right experience.

My cousin is a gynecologist in poland making only 1500zl/month. Apparently this is a maximum salary for a medical professional in this country. However, he's not complaining; he lives in a mansion:) He setup his own private practice clinic in his backyard and this is where the real money comes from...

I only know one person that works in Poland at a large international company. He is fairly young, but has been there a few years. He is in technical sales and makes about the equivalent of 75,000 euro a year. However, just in case it changes things, I thought I should mention that he is Polish and was not hired as an "international" employee coming from another country. That might mean more pay for you, although it is quite a comfortable salary for him and his family in Warsaw.

you didn't say much about your experience, I am assuming you have none, just the degree. i would think that if the company has nothing to do with Greece you will get around 1000 euro, but if it does have some expansion plans involving southern europe you can ask around 1500euro
