Sending Post inside Poland.

Hey Guys.. :)

Ok. My question is fairly simple.
A friend is travelling to Krakow on Tuesday.
And iv'e asked him to post a gift to a lady friend.
In Gdansk While he's there.

Is there anything i need to know before he Goes.
And Is it a straight forward thing..??

You have to be very careful as to what you send through the post in Poland as there are a hell of a lot of thieves out there. We had a parcel sent to Poland and it was then entered in to the usual postal system a packet with a ten pound note and a present. The present arrived but the packet had been opened and the money taken. The packet had to be delivered as it was sent registered mail. Beware! Never send anything of value.

Geez, Michal, you don't accept registered mail if the package had been open, how hard is that to figure out?

Btw, registered mail in Poland is automatically insured to some small value, 50 or 60 Polish zloty, you may file a complaint and in such cases and claim a reimbursement. You just have to keep the small paper you get stamped at the post office when sending registered mail.

Before Paypal started their services in Poland, I had sent several times normal letters (not even registered) with 6.50 euro in each, and there were obviously coins in the envelope, everyone knew there was some cash in there, and they all arrived.
I'm not saying there aren't thieves among post office employees, because there are, but the chance of getting robbed isn't big. I also bought lots of CDs/DVDs online (shops or auctions) and if the value is below 100 PLN (~26 euro) they are mostly delievered by regular post (if the value is higher usually courier) without insurance, and never had anything stolen from me, and I guess, I received that way about 50 pacrcels in the last few years.

All I can say here is that I've had parcels that didn't arrive, but only when sent from the UK.
I've also had letters, which had either been damaged or opened, arrive in a sealed plastic bag. The contents were intact.
All in all I don't trust the Polish mail service 100%
When mail dosen't arrive it is the sender who should start proceedings, as they have the receipt of postage. And you might also find that the Polish mail service is not responsible for mail registered in the UK. Maybe that's why personal mail disappears.

I can only balance this with similar experiences in the UK many years ago.

It was not my mail to tell you the truth, it was my wife having something sent to somebody in Poland.

maybe you would have known better not to send money in a cheapoo way through the post. - It is 'illegal' to send cash through the post, that is why they have 'money orders' you dimwit. There is such a thing as a Direct deposit (bank) also .... but I forgot , your ten quid probably would only cover the international bank transfer.

Well, thanks you dimwit too because as I said it was nothing to do with me personally, it was not my packet. I would not send anything to anybody in Poland. but all the same you do not expect your packets to be opened and the contents to be stolen do you? Yes, you are right and there are probably bank transfer schemes but how does that justify staff stealing mail? Accept what I have said or you too can idz do diala! Wszystko mi jedno!

Personally Ive never had a problem sending parcels to poland.
Sometimes they are late..
One returned. ( And was sent back again ) It arrived that time.

It just takes forever.. ( Upto 4 weeks )
I just thought it would be easier to send it there.
Than post it here.
And i ALLWAYS send it recorded delivery. ( International signed for )
With a return address.

I'd like to point out.
That 12 people were arrested for tampering with baggage and mail..
In the UK.

yes Michal.... opening parcels. They are allowed to do that you know. have you ever heard of Customs ? there the people that are responsible for illegal things such as drugs not to be let into the country through the postal system.

No wonder they will take cash out of a parcel, people are greedy, and there is a rule not to send cash through the post, so there you go they taught you a lesson

I have had many frustrating experiences with the Polish post office in the past here in Pulawy, but not any more after a little confrontation at the post office.
Sometimes not even arriving at all from the UK, delivered to the wrong address and the funniest/most frustrating was when it was my daughters 5th birthday and she received a recorded delivery parcel from the UK, where my mother put her name on the front of the parcel.
When I went to pick it up from the post office, they told me that it must be the person who it is addressed to and not I that picks it up and signs for it. Therefore, after trying to explain that my daughter is only 5-years-old and cannot even write yet, they still insisted that she came down and picked it up in person and signed for it.
Smiling and frustrated at the situation, I took my daughter down to the post office and the woman suddenly realised that I was telling the truth, and said it was ok and that I could take the parcel myself, but no!!! After many historical cock-ups, this was time for payback, so I insisted that she sign for it, my daughter took great pleasure in signing for the parcel in her scribbled name Adela, and the woman was so embarrassed.
I am not normally like this but the situation just pis*ed me off.
Now they know us; no mail disappears and is delivered to the correct address…. funny that eh!!!

Yes, but there was no customs as the parcel was taken by car to Poland and then was posted inside Poland at a normal Polish post office. It was then opened and the banknote was taken somewhere whilst on transit INSIDE Poland.
