Germans are VERY interested in that chapter of our history!

being interested in history and approving it are two different things...

This center doesn't "approves" of it either...it's for information and against forgetting!

The next centre built should be dedicated to the German Nation as a whole. I would call it: The plight of Germans – Jewish Reparations and Restitutions Centre.

I mean – the billions of dollars given to the Jews over the years must have had some kind of effect on the German populace – its due time to recognize such financial suffering and build a memorial dedicated to all the money lost.

I mean we even pay right now millions for other EU countries (also Poland) and still we manage somehow....
You are right, that is definitely worthy of a monument! :)

it's called education...

the fact nazis killed millions of jews amongst others during the third reich is widely accepted as having been wrong amongst germans... no controversy here, right?

sure it happened. i know the facts too. question is though WHY they did get expelled in the first place? whose land it was originally and how they got it...

why do you constantly ignore that this coin has two sides too?

I wish more Poles could say that. But sadly they had to have their lives taken. We were not all given the choice to move. If the Germans didn't get you, chances are the Soviets would.

If I didn't know better it seems as if Germany is adding salt in a wound just to get attention.

It's an open wound for many Germans...no need to add salt.
Quite to the contrary..the denying of the Poles...those tries to talk it down, to make excuses etc. THAT is not helping.

lol Germans playing victm ...

I dont know Bratwurst if you remember fact that Germans just after 1939 expeled/killed all Poles form Gdańsk (before the war there was mix) so in 1945 ... you had to go home ...

and what your post present Gdańsk was Polish later German later Polish later German and now is again Polish :)))

it is form your link ... you started this s h i t

Following the annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland, Germany in October 1938 urged the Danzig territory's cession to Germany. Not surprisingly, Danzig repeatedly refused to negotiate its status and, on September 1, 1939, Nazi Germany invaded Poland, initiating World War II. On September 2, 1939 Germany officially annexed the Free City. The Nazi regime murdered the Polish postmen defending the Polish Post Office: this was one of the first war crimes during the war. Other Polish soldiers defending the Westerplatte stronghold surrendered after seven days of fighting. The German commander returned the sword to the Polish commander for putting up a brave fight. In October 1939, Danzig, together with the rest of Polish Pomerania to the south and west, became the German Reichsgau (administrative district) of Danzig-West Prussia (Danzig–Westpreussen).

Polish and German dissidents were sent to concentration camps, especially neighbouring Stutthof where 85,000 victims perished. Kashubian and Polish intelligentsia were killed in the Piaśnica mass murder site, which is estimated to have had 60,000 victims.

At the beginning of 1945, Germany started evacuating civilians from Danzig. Most Germans fled the city, many by seaborne evacuation to Schleswig-Holstein. This happened in winter under the threat of bombs and in constant danger of submarines.

On March 30, 1945 the Soviet Red Army seized Danzig. In the following days, Soviet soldiers were given completely free hand in the city. Danzig was the scene of brutal violence, rapes, murders, and robbery, and eventually the city was set on fire.

From 1945-1950 most Germans were expelled from the city.

Total population by language, November 1, 1923

German: 95,03%
Polish: 3.28%

(what a "mix" that was)
And tell me more about those "expellations"...had all 3 percent to go???
At once???

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_City_of_Danzig

Danzig was german since 1308 till 1945, fo more than 600 years, over a half of a millenia.

I think you Poles now squatting in Danzig for barely 60 years should have no problems to pack your bags either, right? To go home...

Even before it opened its doors, the exhibition "Forced Paths" attracted a lot of controversy in the German and Polish media.

Excuse me for asking, but doesn't this museum recognize displacement of other peoples in Europe as well, or is that just besides the point?
