Iraqis allege sex abuse at the British Embassy
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/iraq/article3890121.ece

iraq

An Iraqi cleaner and two cooks claim that a culture of sexual harassment, abuse and bullying exists at the British Embassy in Baghdad.

The middle-aged cleaner told The Times that a British contractor with KBR, the company hired to maintain the embassy’s premises, offered to double her daily pay if she would stay the night with him. When she refused, she said, her pay was cut and she was later dismissed.

Wow are you in a sweet mood or what? My point was not about this case as you changed the subject. This is very sad and I took the wrong quote and for this I'm sorry. Anytime innocents are killed it is so very sad. So sorry for the mis response.

You can't have it both ways though, if the troops are there this can happen. Read up on what was taking place by "terrorist" prior to our the military. Not USA made but from there.

I taught an article on the new position that has emerged, whereby Bush has followed sth advocated by Barrack Obama. He has seized the opportunity to force his way into Pakistan, against their express wishes. The new leader doesn't have the military background of Musharraf and will be more easily swayed. Pakistan has been very lax in enforcing the border areas where terrorists take safe haven. This is because many Pakistani police are Pashtuns and sympathise with the cause of the Taliban.

Bush has responded to perceived necessity. This must be the case as he knows he is violating the territorial integrity of Pakistan, this is a constant. Going in now doesn't make this violation any more acceptable. Terrorism calls for strong responses and Pakistan is a half ally at best. The troops have been frittering time away from the real action. They must get in there and fight the real fight.

I pray this was just Bush's war and no other country would ever go throught this. God Bless the victims on this Sept.11.

The focus has shifted away from Iraq and more to Afghanistan. Polish troops have suffered some losses there. It's more of a test of a soldier. It's getting a bit cooler there which will help them.

Well, think what u will. I disagree but at least we are both capable of independent and critical thought. Hairball is a bright lad, I'll take that as a compliment Wahldo.

His strong arguments are often just dismissively swept aside and not refuted cogently at all.

Maybe ur puppet strings are up for renewal :)

Todays news - Pakistanis fire shots in the air above US troops. Things are escalating along the border - its a bit worrying. Could put the troops in Afghan in danger.

I hope the US goes in and blitzes this 'ally'. These people are no allies, they are Taliban sympathisers. They, through their own weaknesses, have allowed the Taliban to regroup and become strong.

America chose this war, they must get tough. No more shirking responsibility in gunning down the big fish.

Why does everyone think of the military option first ?
Wars are won financially nowadays, not military might.
The solution ?
Threaten to back India financially or offer trade concessions in return for allegience.

Withdraw funding for the Taliban.

I heard an analyst on the radio this morning discussing pretty much this reasoning for the new rules wrt going into Pakistan; the analyst even said he felt it was a decision that should have been made 6 years ago. Prior to this, Pakistani govt. was always notified in advance and efforts were "joint". Apparently there were a lot of people being "tipped off" and not around by the time forces got there. Now the plan is to notify Pakistani authorities after the fact. Really sucks it had to go to this, but (IMHO, anyway) there were likely sympathizers who felt if they gave up a few small fish we would let them keep the big ones safe. I of course, like everyone else, have my suspicions about things.

Just when Iraq is seeming almost boringly quiet regardless of one's position on it, it seems this one is heating up again.

You speak and hear enough evil for the damn planet.. some babbling bum on the street makes more sense..

Seanus you're just devils advocate most of the time, that's it. You probably carry around a deck of cards but instead jacks and hearts they're 52 different conspiracy theories. When the Russians first went into Georgia you took the Russians side now you're with the Georgians.

Yeah that's definitely independent thinking.. bravo.

Yeah, because in that event America would be the only country placed in danger.

A misunderstanding maybe?

In a case of an open war between the US and Pakistan the already very strong islamistic opposition/underground will very probably take over with the help of the majority of the Pakistanis...meaning some religious nutters have now the thumb on the red button...and that means bad news for the whole West, not only the US.
So...the US better make nice with the current Paki gov and as slimey and corrupt and authoritarian as they may be the alternative is worse (for the West that is)!

It's already happending and India is having large problems too, would appear that these extremists are spreading their wings and let's face it with the size of the populations in the part of the world, they out number the West!

And just end up funding these people again? It's a lose lose lose situation, keep open communication with these countries but rather not have any kind of close "friendship"

I would personally like for the British to pull all troups out of the "conflicts" and secure UK boards and look after our own.

I really don't see USA as wanting war. I believe on Sept 11,2001 American's went to work and war was the last thing on their minds. This was not the first attempt on the WTC just the last.

I'm with the Georgians, how? Look a little deeper and u'll see that seeing both sides of the argument is the most intelligent way. I like to think that it places me above simpletons who rigidly stick to one side and put the blinkers on to the other. U can stick 2 ur bandwagon tho, that's ur call.

Independent thinking was my forte, all my Profs and teachers realised it. Maybe that's why I can bring sth new to the table in discussions.

Szkotja2007, the military option may expedite proceedings. Otherwise, it's gonna be protracted and expensive. After 5 years in Afghanistan, much needs to be done.

I agree JohnP, this should have happened a long time ago. The impetus was lost after 9/11 and some settled for a lacklustre approach. Yeah, there was a bombing campaign but now it is a boring war of attrition. The real havens are left untouched.
