Alcohol problems of Polish people

I would really say that Polish people love to drink-well most of them(many of you are probably thinking"no s*it") But does anyone here have family who have problems with alcohol? I certainley do, my family. 2 of my uncles died of alcohol. Its the polish and the Irish who haves drinking problems-i think.

Not as much as the Russians though. I think there are problems in every nation.

How come you left out the

uuuuffff!thanx mate.at last there is someone saying the truth. my english friend and i go out for a "few" drinks we get pissed exactly the same.the only reason is that he gets drunk on lager and i get drunk on whisky/vodka.

I don't know, I think once that entire generation born in around the 50's and early 60's dies out the amount of severe will die out. I think that they are the one's that got screwed over the most by switching over to a free market economy.......they really got ****** here, hopefully being in the EU gives a lot more hope to the youth and things change so this cycle doesnt continue..........dont get me wrong there is nothing like having a good time and going out for a few drinks, and i think that will always be a part of Polish culture and eruope in general, but i think alcoholism will most likely decreases in the future........

anyways Mandy I have a question for you, you said that 2 of your uncles died from alcoholism, do you have any young cousins around 20 following in the same path? I have an uncle with some problems in this department as well, but I cannot say the same for the younger generation.......

hopefully things change in this sense.......

But Polish Binge Drinkers drink to forget life not to have fun. Also in case noone has noticed Vodka has a much more narcotic addictive effect than lager which makes you feel lousy.
The poles always try to play the drink problems down. Its ok to go drinking vodka on the streets just dont shame your family by working on a sunday. still have the younger alpha males trying to keep up with the old veterans but I would say that it compares to drink driveng here. The country is realising that they have issues which kill people and are not just a laugh

Indians didn't die because of vodka but because of colonization process, which involved French, English, Spanish and Portugese. The genocide of teh native population in North America took centuries and invlolved many other acts of white men's violence against Indians, rather than introducing Indians to vodka alone.

my two brothers drink, one alot, one sorta mellow, but gets happy drunk.

Ive heard this is more a genetic issue, Rather then Nationality.

Drinking in Moderation is fine. my brother will probably die soon, his liver is
probably looking like a marshmellow from all the wisky, I love him dearly, but
this isnt genetic, its mentally challenging to stop, especially since his body now
needs it. will probably send him into heart failure.

so dammed if you do and dammed if you dont.
sorry to have dismantled this post, but its not Polish that just drink, its all nations
and it isnt genetic, no one forces that bottle to your lips. but once your body needs
it, your stuck forever.
as far as drinking the stuff strait, I dont know how anyone can drink it strait and
not know that it can do something to your liver.
People who have liver failure , in the end stages BLEED OUT>

meaning it comes out of every hole in your body. and there is nothing any doctor
god or anyone can do for you. you blood drains from your body.

I drink to, maybe once every 6 months, sorry to have such a crappy feeling towards it
but, watching people I love around me die , well, nuff said.

i DON'T KNOW ANYONE POLISH WHO DRINKS TO EXCESS. PEOPLE WHO DRINK TO EXCESS HAVE A PROBLEM LIKE UNEMPLOYMENT ETC. I HAVE LIVED INPOLAND FOR 8 YEARS AND ONLY ONCE DID I SEE A DRUNK ON THE STREET.

HOWEVER, I USED TO WORK FOR A UK COMPANY AND SOMEONE THERE DRANK THEMSELVES TO DEATH AT THE AGE OF 30. HE WAS ENGLISH. ALSO ENGLISH GIRLS & BOYS DRINK TO EXCESS EVERY WEEKEND. YOU CAN SEE THEM FALLING ABOUT DRUNK AND BEING LOUD AFTER THE CLUBS EMPTY. SOME EVEN HAVE SEX IN THE STREET - HOW DISGUSTING IS THAT? YOU WOULD NOT FIND THAT IN POLAND.

I THINK BEFORE YOU ACCUSE OTHER NATIONALITIES OF BEING DRUNKARDS ETC. YOU SHOULD LOOK AT YOURSELF. THE UK ALSO HAS THE HIGHEST TEENAGE PREGNANCY RATE IN THE UK.

I have a friend who moved from London ,UK to Canada. She had a visitor from London and she remarked that during that visit, she drunk so much with her guest that she had to take a break to recupurate. Germans - they can drink -they don't get drunk as some other nations. How about Finnish people - sorry Maxx.

That's it? I see a few everytime I'm there. The strange thing about these drunks is that they don't pass out. They're the walking dead. I see them on busses and sometimes just staggering down the side streets. But, I also see the same things in NYC....sometimes more....and really not AS drunk.

I hear more stereotypes about the Irish being drinkers more than anyone. But, there are all stereotypes

I believe the largest group of drinkers are the alcoholics

Very good Fisz...I like it...lol Yes the Irish do like to drink..........its a cultural thing, when there wasn't anything else, when day to day living was so awful over many generations, it was just one of the few ways, men in particular, coped...or didnt! Life was pretty sh!t here for eons of time........

I love to drink with the Irish here in NY. They're always singing folk songe...it's always fun.......musa ring duma doo dama ... whack for the daddy 'ol there's whiskey in the jar...or whatever is said. Good times

I was reading that English woman are the biggest binge-drinkers in Europe.

But there is one difference in drinking customs between Poland and Uk.

One of my English friend pointed it out to me. In Poland you can see drunk person in the morning on the street, during a day.....In UK( especially) weekend's evenings are nightmare lots drunk, loud people....but you don't see many of them during a day.

Where are the? I know that in College arms( cheap beer...) there are usually quite a few alcoholics any time of day....But you don't really see many wobbly people.

u r right, I wish my brother would just stop, hes the most coolest brother in the world
helps me in so many ways, he still works, isnt a menace to society, like always in the

and think has a temp one. before my mom died, when she was getting sicker, with cancer
he had went to jail for the DUI which was his third.

he served his time, came home on mothers day, my mom said that was the best

was very proud of him.

when she died, he signed the papers (no cpr) which is what I was going to do, knowing
that might send him back to drinking, the nurse brought the paper to him, after
that he felt as though it was his fault, so he turned back to the bottle.

but he stayed sober till she passed and after wards for about six months, it was
eating at him.

I know what you say is true, because he has done it. and its weakness for all who
become addicted, something sends them back to it.

some of your guys' stories sound ******* terrible......I hate it that people have to result to alcohol or drugs in such a manner........nothing wrong with celebrating and having some drinks, but every ******* day.......just sad, i hope those kind of things stop in Poland.......but regardless of your stories, I think the amount of alcoholic will decrease overal as a percentage of total population.........there is no way the new generation will drink as much as the old.......at least they have more opportunity, just go ******* west........but whatever, everybody writes their own path........i hope your family members recover.........
