Does anyone know what the rate of firework related injuries is after Sylwester?

Happy New year, everyone!

I began wondering last night, having had the usual dose of creting who let off fireworks in the middle of a crowd, or fire them just above head height across a crowd of people and hit the stage area.

Does anyone know what the rate of firework related injuries is after Sylwester?

In UK fireworks aren't readily available (not sure if they are even available for private purchase and home use anymore) because of the amount of injuries to kids (and adults, I suppose) on November 5th. We don't have a tradition of using them at New Year, anyway.

I remember in the Balkans, people used to fire guns in the air and were amazed when the bullets fell back down to earth!

Trevek: n UK fireworks aren't readily available (not sure if they are even available for private purchase and home use anymore) Yep they are still available to any one over 18.I beleive the shops that sell them have to have a licence.It shocks me that it seems anyone can sell them here in Poland and even worse smoking next to them while they are all open on display.

The news says: the police is very glad there were no injuries. The night passed without firework accidents.

After some of the things I witnessed last night I don't believe for one second there were no injuries, people here have a complete lack of understanding that these things can be dangerous.

The rules of letting off have also been set. It is still bad, in your opinion, but don`t worry, it will be better every next year. :):):):)

At least the little terrorists are not running around with them weeks before the event like they are in the UK....~

Its unfortunate in Poland that fireworks are part of new year celebrations , as is alchohol , the two mixed together is an ideal situation for an accident...

The kids in Poland don,t seem to be as bad as the little thugs in the UK though , and i have not seen them using fireworks to cause damage or terrorise people..

Really?? I have had at least 5 thrown at me over the last week, I have even seen them let of on purpose in shop doorways as elderly people have been coming out. One little thug got a clip round the ear from me after one exploded at my girlfriends feet!

Its obviously different in the big city i guess....my nearest town is a rather quiet place where everyone knows everyone , and the kids seem to be well behaved , probably due to the fact that any bad behavour will be reported to their parents and will result in a smack round the head...

I suppose kids will be kids everwhere , but where i live they seem to have more respect for their elders... This is the kind of place where the cops cruise around on a saterday night hoping something exiting will happen...it usually doesn,t...!

Attitudes need to change, they were letting off fireworks in the little square behind Empik on Plac Wolnosci in full view of the police and nothing was done. Some guys got themselves arrested, but I didn't see what they were doing to get lifted in the first place.

Hahaha, now you mention little thugs - I saw the funniest thing yesterday. Take your usual 6ft shaven headed, muscular, MMA apparel wearing, fridge carrying type. Then shrink him down to about 5ft - and the best part was that he was clearly in his 30's :D

I had someone let a banger off as I walked past during the day. I didn't see who it was but I suspect the guy who was selling the damn things. It didn't do my tinnitus any good and the surrounding on-lookers heard the kind of English they don't teach in Headway.
