And its key to this thread, that a Frenchman can overturn a market stall selling English food (it happened recently) but English cuisine has absorbed influences from around the world. Even without that it's still delicious...

By emulating its immigration policies.

Many Poles consider developing a d'Artagnan moustache.

RN it was a joke, 'pies' means 'dog' in Polish. I daresay I may well have a had a taste of dog or horse, but unlike our weird neighbours in France, I don't make a habit of it...;)

it's just a wrong comparison.
France had and still has untold colonies and possessions around the world. Poland had none.(AFAIK)

There's nothing wrong with a decent pie, is there? A pie is really just a bigger, baked version of a pieróg (note the spelling, Pol-Ams :p ), to be fair. Yet many Poles will say "pierogi are great" but English pies are "English muck", lol.

Why do so many people have such a problem with pies?? They rule! I had a Balti pie in Birmingham once, so I decided to make some keema masala pierogi. Very nice they were, too. The average Pole would naturally complain about the absence of that "wyjątkowy Polski smak", but it's my gaff, so my rules! I bet the French can't be so imaginative! haha

Besides, I'm sure that sascha can kindly tell us about that world-beating Serbian cuisine which everyone raves about. I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy a "Serbian Cookbook" any time soon. :)

I can't think of anything more overrated than French food, though. They do excellent cheese, but that's about it, imo. That's one way in which Poland ought to become more like France, though - Polish cheese isn't that great.

Apparently the reason why French food has more sauces than British food is that some time ago the raw ingedients in Britain were a much higher quality and the food was so good it didn't need sauces to mask the taste. When the vogue for French food infected the aristocracy, the sauces appeared.

Polish cheese... do you mean the pseudo dutch stuff?

Are you offering? What a pleasant surprise.

We, in the Irish isles, eat lamb and rabbit too. Whats the difference between them and chowing down on a nice bit of cheval?

Its a bit hypercritical to refuse to eat some meats, as they are cute and loveable, whilst eating another cute and loveable animal.

There is room for all gods creatures, beside the mash potatoes and sautéed vegetables!

Rabbits are fair game, horses are not, IMHO. We ran over a rabbit the other night and it was delicious..;)
