Adaś Miauczyński is a highly intelligent but neurotic man who just didn't make it in life, and who now works as a teacher. In this movie he offers a very interesting view on his life and the Polish day-to-day reality, of course as it's viewed through his eyes. (His opinion.)

I came across it recently, and eventhough I didn't - and still don't! - understand every sentence, I understand most of the movie, and thought it was funny. So if you're interested in modern-day Poland, I would definitely recommend watching this movie. (Don't mistake it for the absolute truth about Poland though!) It's complete in nine parts, so if you have too much time on your hands..

:)

I got it from Netflix as the Day of the Wacko (to the curious American audience who uses Netflix and can't find the Day of Madman

It's a crazy movie. The amount of dog s**t might not be true, but the rest, pretty accurate. Lol

Oh well, wether the correct translation is madman, lunatic or wacko, you can't go wrong with the original movie title.

That it is!

You think so? I think it's all pretty overexaggarated. (But then again, what do I know?)

The most funny scene is when he checks his son's knowledge of English... ;)

But to be honest I don't like this movie and I don'y get the phenomenom of it. It's the sense of humor qrwa x 10 in one sentence...

I disagree, Zeti. I think it is one of the best Polish films made in terms of how Poles get irritated and respond to the harsh reality of life for them. For example, he talks about extensive schooling and being put through a system for years, only for him to get his agonisingly low 777PLN. He shows the frustration of a teacher in getting points across to those students that are below par. His son especially. It's amazing how the basics are bypassed here. A/an/the, for example. He touches on all major frustrations and also shows the reality that a Polish mother can be comforting when all around you gets your goat.

The 'to be, kur*a, or not to be' sketch is designed to be humorous and indeed is :) :)

She's very much like my mother-in-law... need I say more? ;P

Anyway, Seanus, have you watched Włatcy móch? I see it as a teenage version of Dzień świra.

Yeap, this movie is a precious one... Two great scenes:
- in the train:

- Polish prayer (very dark humor...):

This movie is basically the set of caricatures about Polish society.

Well, I *have* worked with a couple of Polish guys who were using the K-word a lot more than the guy in the movie, and I'm afraid they weren't actors.

;)

Włatcy móch?

Director? Year?

actually, is a cartoon series, made by Bartosz Kędzierski.
You'll find it on Youtube, also on ipla - it's a Polish TV site where you can watch some shows for free, you need to download it and register though. I'm not sure whether it's available for non-Polish ip addresses.

If any of you give it a try, let me know what you think. I see some similarities with Dzień świra as far as the kind of humour and general outlook go. But the Polish here might be slightly more difficult to grasp.

edit: wow, they even have an English wikipedia entry ;)

On YT you will find many polish cult comedies.

Miś is the most cult comdy from 80/70s

I also recomend you "Alternatywy 4" - it was a famous serial. You will find it on YT looking on "Alt 4 odc" title all 7 episodes.

I saw also "Brunet wieczorową porą" on YT but I'm not sure you will like it.

Z, another classic scene from Bareja:

Could someone post these scenes, please?
