Oh yes.

Fave album though is still Kroke's 'Eden'. This and a few other Kroke pieces became 'East is East', the Nigel Kennedy collaboration with Jaz Coleman in which Kroke, unforgivably, get pretty inconspicuous billing.

Merged: Looking for good Polish music?

I want to find some good Polish music to listen to, as I have never heard any Polish songs really. My partner (who is Polish) has a rubbish taste in music! I would just like to hear some Indie/ Polish R n B? Can anybody recommend any good ones? or any artists who are famous in Poland?

If you like ska you might like Akurat.

Merged: Song in Polish about love, I love you like Ireland is the title of the song

Song in Polish about love, I love you like Ireland is the title of the song. I don't have any question about this, its just FYI. If you are Irish you could use it on your Polish girlfriend for valentines day!!! You still have enough time to learn it! :-) I don't know the meaning of the lyrics but I am sure it will be ok!

Your favourite Polish Music Album

Moving my last post to here doesn't make much sense to me.

It isn't my favourite Polish album, it might be yours but it wasn't your post.

If people have so much trouble putting the posts in the right place, don't blame us, blame yourselves for not having a better system. This isn't even a real Polish forum because most of it is in English imho. Everyone is allowed their opinion by the way.

I know the thread is really old but ... Do prostego człowieka is awesome. It always gives me chills. Hard to believe it was written over 80 years ago. And Akurat's interpretation is great.

Kult... does anyone listen to them?

I have recently rediscovered Kult's Ostateczny Krach Systemu Korporacji album and I listen to it almost non-stop (I know I am weird ;)

Hard to think of an actual favourite as there are quite a few I like. Goya - Smak Słów and Horyzont Zdarzeń. I really like Beata Kozidrak's voice, and I love Dżem.

Another good album is the one this is taken from.....as everyone groans because it was played to death so need to announce who it is!

" Pokaż na co cię stać, ale nie jeden raz
słuchaj, słuchaj, je je
piękne słowa mówią wszystko
lecz nie zmienią nic............"

piękne słowa mówią wszystko

it's 'pierwsze słowa' Chemikiem not 'piękne słowa' - first words have more potential to tell you everything than beautiful words - the latter are often used to deceive or manipulate

But it's 'piękne słowa' in the song, isn't it?

I don't think I could choose one favourite album but all the time classics like Dżem, Perfekt, Budka Suflera, Maanam, Lady Pank etc are always nice to hear.

I always heard 'pierwsze słowa' there - but I first consulted tekstowo.pl and yes they say it's 'piękne słowa' - and finally I went on to listen to the song carefully (I haven't heard it in years) and yes, it's clearly 'piękne słowa' - it seems I never listened to the song carefully and assumed much - sorry Chemikiem for misinformation

If I'd have to pinpoint a single album, it would be Svann's "Granica czerni i bieli" ("The border of blackness and whiteness" or something like that).

It was created almost 15 years ago by the people from Abraxas and Closterkeller; their two vocalist sing together. Songs are only in Polish, that group came to existence only for that album.

How about Kayah i Bregovic? Apart from music, I have always liked the lyrics.
Recently I came across songs from Alkimja by Steczkowska with some Jewish songs.
Just listened to some Svann's songs - interesting.

I hate Dzem. They have some kind of cult status that Poles seem to love yet when I listen to them I can't help thinking WTF is this crap ?

the all time classics like Dżem, Perfekt, Budka Suflera, Maanam, Lady Pank etc are always nice to hear.

You could also add SBB and Republika to that esteemed list.

I hate Dzem.

Great lyrics that people could relate to, plus the Svengali-like Ryszard Reidel, and the talented Pawel Berger? . They are crap now of course, but for anyone at all who liked classic rock and blues, Dzem were the real thing. Sorry to hear that you don't get them.

Dzem sucks. They're like a newer Buda suflera and not in a good way. Kazik tho is pretty good

Well, it depends on your taste in music.
Musically, Dżem is far better than Popek (kind of modern disco polo). But that pretty much depends on what you like.
Kazik and Kult are great.
I'd also add Hey (Nosowska is incredible) and T. Love, probably some more I can't think of right now.

@kaprys

True... yeah im just not a big fan of like soft classic rock. I like a few songs by Popek - namely the stuff he does with Borixon through Gang Albani

Kazik and Kult are great.

I was watching the 12 Groszy music video yesterday... ah brings back memories of being a young pole living in the city lol

Sure. As I said, it's very subjective.
