Felix Topolski - what a wonderful discovery (for me)

I was watching a programme the other day and they showed some of his work, what an interesting chap, great artist and illustrator.

What other hidden gems does Poland have?

Felix Topolski was born on 14 August 1907. He studied in the Warsaw Academy of Art and trained as an artillery officer. Later he moved to work in Italy and France and eventually moved to the United Kingdom in 1935 and founded a studio near Waterloo where there is still a free permanent exhibition which chronicles the 20th century. He married twice, first to Marian Everall and then Caryl J. Stanley. The George Bernard Shaw play In Good King Charles's Golden Days was published in 1939 with illustrations by Topolski, bringing his work to a wide audience in the UK.

Some say Zbigniew Preissner is underrated. His critics (who are usually comparing his style to modern German composers for whom beauty is avoided for various reasons) often talk about syrupy elements to his music, but ne vertheless he is excellent at what he does and any 'syrupyness' is generally very in context since he does a lot of film scores etc.

Kuryłowicz and Partners are well-known as architects in Poland, but deserve a wider reputation. The late Bohdan Lachert also.

There are also some first-class sculptors in Poland, and the Society of Sculptors gallery on ul. Mazowiecka has no permanent collection but amazing temporary exhibitions.

Note the fact that a genuine post gets no attention, this man was a geninous and gets no recognition whatsover! Anyone that writes about anything other than art, I will repot to Admin.

There is a rumor that "Wojtek Fibak" the former polish tennis player is now buying up all the classic artists available on the market to raise the price of polish art.He is reported to be the number one colector of Polish art in the world.

Well he wont be getting his hands on some Topolski's most recognised work.

Amathyst: Well he wont be getting his hands on some Topolski's most recognised work. Of course not Toploski made his name in the Uk and had british residency...

If this is what all of his works look like, then I'm guessing his personality must've been slightly more interesting than his sketches were? (A bit too simple for my liking.)

''Chiaruscuro II'' by Małgorzata Kosiec. (Acrylic, signed 2008.) I like this one very much.

''The Feast'' by Małgorzata Kosiec. (Acrylic, signed 2008.) A bit creepy, but colourful nevertheless.

Bzibzioh: Fibak is an art collector for many many years now, not just recently. He has his own art gallery. He has also employed one of the main professors at the academy of fine art, to hunt out the most rare art on the polish market for aquisition.

Then you dont seem to see the beauty in simplistic art - its pure beauty as far as Im concerned - if you have an imgination, rather than a one dimensional view..you'd see it.
